Remember the old effects in the original U2-XMP? I for one thought they were amazing. I'm talking about the rocket trails, the awesome fire effect of the shotgun secondary, the cool blue and red muzzle flash of the duster, and not to mention the spiffy spawning effects. I know this is only a beta, but Im curious to know if those effects will be imported to UTXMP. Do any of you know?
I also wanted to mention the wierd bullet trails of the duster when you see other players fire.....was this in the original?

thanks,
chino

Yeah, I want the old hacking effect and the old vehicular-manslaughter-with-the-raptor effect back. The blood coming from the back now looks stupid.

You people will have to settle with the current effects. U2XMP used Legends own particle system allowing some more cool stuff then the particle system that is used in UT03/04. So in other words effects cant be copied 1:1 as static meshes / textures but need to be rebuilt with different tools.

There wasn't a trail as such, but the path of the bullets lit up in that player's team colour, much like a sniper shot did. I'm not sure but the effect may have been reduced/removed with the 7710 patch, but it definitely existed at some point.

/me wants massive visual effects since most people´s hardware allows this. I play at ultra high details without any sign of lack of performance.

/me wants sounds that really benefit from good sound system. Massive explosions with LFE are total must, something that really breaks peace between you and your neighbors let alone family members. -->Sound patch would be nice. (I remember the days when original Unreal´s sounds were updated. The difference was like between night and day.)

Here's my assessment of how possible it is to use UT2k4's emitters to a similar appearance as Legend's system.

EMP 'nades: Can be done easily. Sprite emitter for flare, small colliding bouncing particles for sparks, maybe some trailing sparks for good measure.

Rocket Explosion: easy as well. Simple sprite, some sparks.

Bullet trails: Make them thinner and disappear faster, then it will be very close.

Jugg/Mortar/Mine explosions: Big mesh emitter for shockwave, lots of small sprites for smoke. Also simple.

Gas: Make the sprites bigger, and that will make it look thicker.

Smoke: See Gas

Shock Lance: Simply have the mesh/sprites used for projectiles have 2 side by side to make it appear double.

Rocket trails: Make them a little darker, maybe a few other things but nonetheless easily possible

Raptor boost flame: Make the emitters shoot faster and have lower lifetime, to actually look like a BOOST and not exhaust

XMP's bullet effects, for Raptor turret/Swingarm Turret/Winged Turret/Roundhouse Turret: Hmmm....this one's a poser. The best way to get the same effect would be to have many many large emitter sprites to look like before with wide spread. Also have the bullet traces come fast and not too accurately, and it should be possible.

Lowlands Giant Turret: Probably a beam emitter with a swirling laser texture. For the explosion, several static mesh emitters for shockwave spreading (sprites would look ghey for shockwave) and sparks that slow down with time (use velocity scale) and some explosions like the ONS Power Core explosions

If I missed something particular, tell me and I'll try to analyze it.

Muzzle flashes of the duster and grace pistol, shotgun secondary. Please :)

I think I loaded up the game in instant action, and the duster muzzle flash seemed to show up better for some reason... I've noticed a couple other things show up in IA that don't show up normally (ie. xhairs on the gunner's rockets in the air). /methinks replication isn't being done for everything yet... I dunno.

It would be cool as hell to have the rockets land effect be the same as the juggurnauts land effects where it looks like pieces of the land come up

Muzzle flashes should also be fairly simple to implement, all you need are the original textures which are free anyway.

I like the new vehicle spawning effect, though. I liked the old one too, so it doesn't really matter.

AGREED. It sure would be cool to blow up some soil with the poor victims. Same goes for fragmentation grenades as well, though in smaller scale of course.

What about the effects for the tank shooting his main gun? are those muzzle flashes? or can that effect be made with somthing els?
