Color on my Voyager phone camera sux and the auto focus is really slow and lame. At least B&W is decent and the LCD screens on my phone are beautiful.

A few decent shots from my phone:

Never thought you could get that good shots with a camera phone (that's both to ignition and 007mike ;) )

These are some shots from yesterdays shoot. Lucky for us we had a brief clearing in the sky where the sun could make an appearance.

Usually I do a shoot and I have a few favorites which I use either for advertising or for the website. This time I can honestly say I have lots of good content but I do not have a a single shot that really stands out.

I'm hoping to get some feedback on this. Which one is your favorite(s)?

Almost forgot the lighting set up shot. Didn't use this lighting for every shot, but for most. The sun was most inconsistent.

Very beautiful pictures, but alas, because I practice kendo, it's way too apparent for me that she holds the sword horrendously wrong, and that unfortunate detail sticks like needles in my eyes. :(

Putting that feeling aside, I find shots 2, 4, 8 and 10 to be the best. You've sure got some skill.

6, 7, 8 and 10 are my favourites. 8 probably being my overall favourite.

I don't like the ones of her in the red jacket purely for the reason that there is a lot of shadowing on face/coat and I find it distracting. Thank you for posting a "behind the scenes" shot though, helps me understand lighting a little better! :)

LOL I knew it!!
Nobody on the set (including myself) knew how to use the swords. At least on the last shoot we all knew how to hold a gun.

Thanks for the input!

007Mike, I personally like 4 and 7 best. You've done a great job with 4 for me to like it, I don't usually like black and white images - great job :)

/waits for his new lens to turn up. Treated myself to a Sigma 30mm f/1.4 :D

"The sword she must become part of your arm. You must hold her so that she is easy to turn and yet you are able to apply all your force. Also, you must become one with the ground but ready to move in the blink of an eye when there is much danger. And never forget to look in the eyes of your adversary for it is there that you will see the workings of his spirit". Do you think I could get the role :p ?

My preference goes to 2, 4, 8, 10.

No problem!
So it was another training yesterday and I wanted to take some pictures there so I could show you how a exactly Japanese sword is handled (not sure if it applies on European swords, since I'm not even sure if they had a real way of fighting), in case you'd like to do a shoot like that again, but unfortunately I had forgotten to bring my camera... Maybe Saturday. :)

Haha, yes, that sums it up quite nicely, I think. Training's on Mondays, Tuesdays and Saturdays. ;)

I really like this picture but maybe a white balance is in order, unless the high contrast at the center was intentional. The white shed up in the air near the center is an eye-sore.
I'm not a fan of the border effect (the burn at the corners) because I feel like it degrades what is an otherwise sharp and pristine image. Although I like the "letterbox" effect.

White balance effects the color, not the contrast. I personally like high contrast images; they don't look flat and dull. Especially with the subtle yellow color balance in this.

I like the vignetting (the "border effect"), it brings the center into focus, and connects with the black frame on top and bottom. A lot of people like to use old pinhole film cameras like the Holga because they create this effect naturally.
But to each their own ;)

Oh man.. Please do! I would love to see some shots with accurate handling of the swords.

LOVE IT! It looks beautifully stylized. You need to make this a 30x20 print ASAP and put it on your wall :)

I didn't say make it LOW contrast.

I said make it a little less intense.

But to each their own

If she was going for the pinhole camera effect that's great, but on a shot such as this (soft but solid colors, high focus) I feel like border effect makes it look more like I'm about to black out.

I'd buy that thing as a print (it really is a great shot otherwise) if it didn't have that border. Again, the letterboxing is fine. The "vignetting" I guess, is what bothers me. If it was a different type of shot (different setting, subject) it might work better.
