007MIKE- I LOVE the new shots! The backlighting on the 1st one is awesome. I want to experiment with backlighting but don't really have a lighting kit or flash to work with. Any suggestions?

For that shot All I had to do was overpower the brightness of the sun. You can do this with 2 strobes on full power in the late evening or early morning. 4 Strobes is better if you have them. The rest was done in post. Though hardly visible, using highlight recovery I was able to bring out the beautiful colors the sun was making in the sky.

Wireless triggers can be had for about $ 15-25 each on Ebay.
Flashes range from $60-$500 a piece. Manual controls are the way to go. I used Nikon SB-26 flashes. They are old, cheap, and perform better than my Canon 550ex flash. (faster recycle time, more flashes per battery charge) Cheap is the way to go.
The vivitar 283 and 285 is legendary. Don't ever stick it on your cameras shoe mount though. They will fry your camera. They are more than ok to use for a wireless system though. The Vivitar 283 is just as powerful as the latest Nikon or canon flashes but are priced in the $15-40 range in the used market. Only other issue is that they suck up your battery life very fast. Get some PowerEx 2700 rechargeables and your set!

Impact Brand (B&H house brand) lighting stands are cheap and very sturdy.

If you cant afford any of that.. you can simply use the sun and some helpers to assist you with holding up light reflectors. If you cant afford those, go down to your local craft or paper store and pick up some 20x30 sheets of sturdy white paper. Reflect the sun. Seriously, that's how I got started :)
Budget lighting made super easy.

Here is a photograph of my sis's entry in the "dickerdoodle" contest.

That is totally gnarly and rox!
I like how she is hiding behind her creation.

Sure. I used a tripod and set my camera to manual mode, set the ISO speed to 100, set the aperture to to f/22, and then did a 30 second exposure. I adjusted things a bit in Photoshop, but that's about it, nothing too crazy. Thanks by the way.:)
