No Packet Loss but Packet Loss?

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

When you guys play online, do you ever feel that sometimes the players(and not you) move faster than they would normally? And that you can't always rely on what your opponent's character model is facing or determine what that player is actually seeing at the moment? How about your bullets still go right through the player even on a ZeroPing server that you ping really low in(like in the 30s)?

I usually experience this without the loss of packets. I have 0's in packet loss and 0's in unordered packets in my stats, but somehow everything is still really unplayable at times. This becomes more true if I don't shutdown my computer for a couple of days or more.

Does anyone around here know what's going on? I know for sure it's not video lag, or is it? I don't notice drops in frames, it's just that everything moves faster and all instances are unpredictable. It's like guys with 150 ping see me 3 seconds before I see them. What is the freakin' deal?

HELP ME! Just some theories and comments will help calm me down!

To help theorize, here's my stuff:

AMD FX-55 2.6Ghz
2GB DDR400
Nvidia 7900GTX
Sound Blaster X-Fi
74GB 10K rpm WD HD
OCZ 600Watt
Windows XP SP3
Internet: 16 down/2 up
Game: UT2k4 -- 10K Netspeed/No VSync :: 80-100 fps average

That's saying something, it probably has alot to do with it, once I didn't shut anything down for 6+ months and during that time my monitor began having strange, frustrating issues I was never able to diagnose before it keeled over one day. (Nevermind the huge amount of other equally strange, frustrating, undiagnosable issues that are still left over I've never been able to fix since then.)

It might not fix anything but definitely shutting your PC down more often will keep it from getting worse (Anytime soon at the very least).

I always thought since Windows 2000 and XP, leaving your system on is not such a bad thing. Even though it does seem to make a difference, I don't know why it would as I've been told running your system for days shouldn't be a problem. The only reason why I run it for days is because my room gets so freakin' cold at night that I have to leave it on sometimes!

Windows has never been very good with staying on, and I don't think there have been any improvements in that regard. Linux, on the other hand...
