History:
"So there I was. Entrenched. Blueys everywhere. I were at the bridge-house in Extreme Prejudice. All my PSG1 ammo was gone, and there were no weapons nor ammo to get from the ground. My grenades... Winchester. Only a single and lonely Beretta in my hands. The last 5 bullets. Nice day to live. Great opporties to die. I saw the last 2 of them getting closer. By then I was behind the other house, getting ready for the kill. The gun was aimed, the first one was closer. He appeard. TARGET!!! BAM BAM BAM!!! One down. 2 tries left. The last was alarmed. He shot a whole 75 bullet clip. I hided. Then a leaned. Aimed. A black wall.
F_UCK!!! WERE AM I AIMING!!! BAM BLAM!!! click. He stood there, looking at me like as if he were smiling; laughing at my disaster. Weapon decliped. My situation: all guns gone winchester. My knive? He was far. I just saw him selecting the shotgun. He looked for an instant more, like wanting to say: God be with you. BOOM!!! Blue wins the match."

Now the sugestion: what about adding night sights for the weapons, mainly for the pistols? For the SMGs and rifles too, if needed.
About what are night sights. No, they are not IR, TERMAL or light amplificating devices. Night sights are phosphorescent iron sights. They work just like their non glowing pals. This would have saved my round if were implemented sooner. I was aiming the M9 at a black wall, so a could not differ the gun´s sights and the wall, ´cause they were - and still are - all black. The use of night sigths in pistols should show a difference like the PSG1 when switching the lights on/off. Think about it for the Robar too.
It´s, in basis, a tiny skin modification.
Well, this is all yours.

I´m gonna kick your lilly ass, freak!!!

I think that it might be a bit hard doing the actual glow of a night sight due to the engine, still it's a pretty good idea for 3.0 or 3.0+

BTW, I know what LA and IR are (not very good english there :D) but what is TERMAL? Thanx

thermal is basically if not the same as ir. just another way of aying it. many night sights like he's talking about are tritium. i think it could be done in a simular way to the aimpoint.

Thanks LB, guess I should have realised that. D'oh :(

Anyway, 3.0+ needs a night vision device IMO. I suggested this to Shakken but he made no comment on it. what does everyone else think?

Maybe I'm too ignorant of the UT engine, but why would it be hard to make one bit of the model glow? The rocket launcher in regular UT has a glowing ammo indicator, IIRC, which glows red in the dark.

I think this is the single best idea I have heard on here in a while.
1) It's completely realistic. Last time I checked, the US Army had Tritium sights on all of their M9s. Plus, the M3 Super 90 has them as an option. Also, almost half the police departments around my town require Tritium sights on officer's handguns.

2) It's simple. No animation, just an edit to the model skins (hopefully). No menu selection, because they can't be removed and added without a press.

3) Addresses a real problem in gameplay-- no glowing crosshair, no aimpoint in the dark.

Go for it!

all

The post originator said handguns first, then the rest of the guns. If this is realistic, which I guess it is, I think it would be a great addition.

Why not ?

It seems a feature easy to implement and surely it couldn't do any damage.

:D

Cheers to Everyone

A long long time ago this idea was turned down (i think by Gryphon or Shakken) for some reasons. I think it was because Tritium is radioactive and forbidden in some contrys.
But why not try again? I think it would be a VERY useful feature and it isn't unrealistic!

Um, I looked for a post to that effect but found nothing... how long ago was that? Most older wris****ches have tritium on the dials, too. I've never heard of a weapon being forbidden because it had night-combat capabillity, hehe. Tritium is so low in radiation you probably couldn't harm a fruit fly with it if you hatched and raised it on your front sight. Anyway, what would these countries do? Only fight 9 to 5? :)

Besides, shotguns using buckshot are forbidden by international law and yet Inf has them.

Sure that's Tritium, guys? I always thought tritium was hydrogen (one more neutron than in deuterium).

Then again, those physics classes are a long time ago, so maybe I'm wrong.

The word being censored is actually 't.w.a.t'.
God I hate that TacOps guy.

The glowig sights are mad with the same stuff those night decals are. U all know those things we all used to put in our bedroom´s walls. It´s that. And about radiation, if so; get away from TV, microwave-oven, celulars, sun, life and your computer.

IS tritium radioactive?

Even if it is, were talking about 3 blobs of it, which added up, are about the size of the nail on your smallest toe.

Hardly cancer material. Depleted uranium shells on the other hand.....

Yeah, it is, that's why you don't need to 'charge' it in the light like you have to do with your watch dial in order for it to glow. But it's hardly enough to make it worth mentioning.

---edit---
same goes for DU, the problem is not the radioactivity of the shells themselves, the problem is the uranium-oxides from the pulverized projectile that drift around where these shells strike. But "radioactive munitions" sells a lot better on TV...

radioactivity

I'm sure the radioactivity isn't going to be harmful to a human unless you eat your gun, and you'd have to eat a lot of guns to do something to you. Also, most of the soldiers in Infiltration don't live longer than a few minutes, so who cares if they were going to get cancer a few decades later?

Caverna, could you edit the topic of this subject? Add something like "<- look in here Shakken and Gryphon". I think it would be very helpful the have their opinions in here.

Well, anyway, once you decide to eat your gun, cancer is no longer a problem. :p

I have yet to hear of a country that doesn't permit tritium night-sights on their weapons because of readioactivity, and unless somebody speaks up now, I will continue to deny such a thing.

Older tooth fillings are known to be slightly radioactive too, btw, hehehehe. Be sure to brush your teeth now. :D

Even if the gloving night sights are turned down for whatever reason, there is an alternative.

Im sitting here looking at my Glock 17, and what do i see? 3 blobs of white paint aplied to the sights, talk about simple, but it works!

Well, actualy its only 2 blobs, cus on the Glock, the rear sight is painted as a continual line.
But it would be 3 on most other guns :D

EDIT> Christ, now CONT is censored!!, i can understand cUnt, but cOnt!!
