Need help ASAP - cannot find LAN games

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

Having a LAN party right now,
but for some reason, I can't find and of the games that anyone starts. They can't find my games either.
Our LAN is up fine and dandy, other games run ok, so we have determined that it's something with my UT.

when I check the log this comes up

ScriptWarning: UBrowserLocalLink Entry.UBrowserLocalLink10 (Function UBrowser.UBrowserLocalLink.Start:000A) gethostbyname failed (WSANO_DATA)

nobody else gets this so I think that it's at least part of the problem.
I replaced my UBrowser files in the /System folder with copies from one of the other computers, so this isn't the problem. At least I don't think so.

Any suggestions.

Hi, chances are that you need to do the following: go to control panel/network and select properties of your TCP/IP->ethernet adapter. If you don't have TCP/IP bound to your ethernet adapter(s) then add it in this same window by clicking: add/protocol/microsoft/tcp/ip

Now, after selecting TCP/IP properties of your ethernet adapter,
then select the IP address tab and enter 255.255.255.0 in the subnet mask field of ALL the computers on your LAN. Then specify a unique IP for each machine, such as 198.168.50.1 for one machine and increment the last digit upwards for each different machine.
You may also want to open your IE browser and under tools/internet options/connections, select "never dial a connection" so that your machines do not try to access the internet when you start up a LAN game. You can add a manual shortcut to your desktop by copying your connection from the dial-up networking folder to your desktop. Clicking on this will do the dialing for you before you open your browser for surfing!

Thanks for your help...we will have to wait until next LAN party to try it out though.

We already have our systems set up so they dont dial to the net...but we WILL try the IP address allocation "trick" next time.

Thanks again...I will post the results later.

For some reason unreal, and unreal tournament need the ip addresses of all the computers to be one away from each other, to work on a lan. I wasted half a day on my lan part trying to figure out what was wrong, when i found only computers with the similar ip addresses would work. Kind of a pain, but not bad once you figure it out.
