I am a big FPS and electronic musician. I realized that the ambient bird sound (ooo - WAAaaa - huuuu) from Unreal would be perfect for a song. Does anyone have this sound from either Unreal or Killing Time (in which it originated)? If so, please email zipped wav, au, mp3, whatever, to me.
TIA

Open up UEd, granted that you do have UT ot unreal. Where the box says "textures" click on it and select sounds. The hit load, select ambient outside (something like that) find that particular sound and hit export. The sound will be converted into .wav format @ 8khz mono I beleive.

All the sounds in the game are in the uax one way or another.
When you open up amdoutside, make sure the tab under "sounds" says "all" and not "looping".

BTW you may want to check with the US copyright office, look under musical recordings. They specify what can and can't be used. Such as voices heard in the background of a musical recording must have a seperate copyright if you wish to have the background protected, music heard in the background of a movie must have a seperate copyright... blablabla
too many d@mn laws.
Considering what I have heard you may not need permission to "sample" a sound if it has been made unrececognizable to the original work (which is pretty low quality for making into a song).
waaaay too many d@mn laws.
I doubt GT will want anything until you go platinum :)

I dl'ed unsound from fileplanet, but could only open the uax's. My knowledge of Unreal isn't that hot, besides it being my favorite first-time-through games ever -- IMHO has almost no replay value :-(
Read about UnrealEd but don't have it with my install. Downloading UnrealEd now, so hopefully...
Was thinking about recording the bg sounds during gameplay, but that would include music.
As far as I know, all images and sounds for video games are intellectual property, and although it would be nice to just take it, I get permission first. If you're pissed about being the first Zombie, imagine how I felt when I heard one of my tunes used for a Flash intro on someone else's site! (since removed) When you work with your brain, you have to respect other people's work too!

Hey no prob, it all depends on how far you take it. Like those copyright notices in the beginning of moveis. They fail to mention that is is against the law ONLY if you make money off of the copies made or cause the people who made it to lose money. Other than that, you could spend an eternity duplicating the same movie for yourself, kind of like the backup copy for UT.
Forgot to mention something...
When you find the sound, and you will, save it as *something*.wav and make sure "all files" is selected under file type. For some reason it wouldn't export .wav files until I did that.
If all else fails like you said before, record them durring play. To eliminate the BG music just turn it off :)

hey yeah, I'm the 1 that u wanted!

Well, the song itself is a messed up drone. More something I've written to help me focus on testing software, than something to be enjoyed :) You can find the current version at my site without the Unreal wav. It's simply titled "Un-named Weird thingy." It is. It is also not the best thing I've written, but some folks got a kick out of how messed up it is, so I uploaded it.

\Thanks again
