  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

I would like ask of some of my fellow gamers as to some tips for better online gaming.

First of all... I am using an internal 56k Zoom Winmodem. I have 128 megs of RAM, and using an AMD K6-2 350 chip w/ 3D NOW. I am also using a Voodoo3 2000 AGP card.

I play Team Fortress (Quake 1) which is fine, Quake 2 Lithium and some other mods, which also run fine... but I am having problems with Q3A and UT...

UT runs smooth, but I always have a high ping and get the ole red phone jack a lot.... Q3 is terrible with lag....

I use the Wicked mini GL drivers for Q3 which I understand do not support 3D NOW! Which is fine.. but would that cause lag with Q3A?

I also have an external USR that I can get my hands on (a hardware modem) would this help? Also, does it really matter if I move all the PCI cards as far away from the AGP as possible... What else can I do???

Thanks....

Winmodems, though they are 56k, are unlike regular modems because they still use system resources to support it. Basically, although you may be connecting at 56k, your system itself is not operating as efficiently as it should since it is supporting your winmodem.

Oh MAN! Fusion, You got some probs Bu-D!
I've gone from the top to the bottow of this ****ing Forum looking at some of the Stupid ****, and man, there are just piles of it laying everywhere.

First. UT and Q3, they are good games, Compatibility comes first when even thinking about making any game.

Second. Your System specs look ok but everything that you have described reminds me of a trashed registry. I know your not an advid "programmer", Who cares, that's why we have made forums, to help those unfortunate as ourselves by using the knowledge of others.

Third, UPDATE EVERYTHING POSSIBLE. I know that your system sounds ok, but look at everything you've previously said. "IT WAS WORKING UNTIL YOU INSTALLED THE PATCH" Well?
The Patch is just an updater file utility that seemingly "corrects" problems with the original version. You apparently keep thinking that this is some sort of hardware prob. I don't think so. Your best bet my friend, Surf around and download all the "Up-2-date" drivers for your stuff, save them to a disk or on another drive for later, then WIPE YOUR DRIVE CLEAN!!!!!!
Start from Scratch. Its the best place to go when your systems so far scrapped. Sorry man, I know it sux, but trust me, I've been doing this **** for 10+ yrs now, and it ain't pretty, but that's thank to MR.Bill Uknowwho!
GOOD LUCK - I hope you get something from this. Long Live the GAmErZ!
