Hey guys I would like to get this skin started,

I have photoshop 7.0, Maya 6.0, and the upaint. Can someone give me a general idea of how to get this started and what program to use. I keep hearing upaint isn't good for skinning and how and I going to make my skin look like a actually skin without it being a clone of something someone did. Like I'd want to do this cat like Hide's model or -TJ-'s. But change the face to make her evil, red eye's, etc.

After that I want to throw some leather and armor on her. Help me out please anyone I'd like to try and get this done in a month.

I would start at our Tutorial-Section

I´m sure Klasnic´s UPaint-Overview is a great help.

Also , there are many general skinning tut´s covering Paintshop and Photoshop. And many many more. :)

Thanks for trying but most of that is UT related not UT2k4 and not a part of that tells me how to open a model in photoshop, maya, and nothing explains how to open a model that isn't already in the game using upaint. I was talking about opening one of the marygold model/skins in Upaint I can't do it and nothing says how. An where are these Photoshop skinning tut's.

A better example is what programs you guys are using and is there a place to get textures and what not.

Aah I nearly missed this, sorry Phantasma. First of all you can't open a model in Photoshop, only images of the skin. You probably can open a model in Maya if you have a mesh made in Maya or in a format Maya can read. I don't use the program and only know of meshes and models for 2k3/2k4 made with 3DStudio Max that as far as I know are not compatible with Maya.

If you want to skin the Marygold model in uPaint you need the original .psk mesh which you copy to the uPaint meshes folder and the skin/wireframes that you copy to the textures folder. Hide mentioned how to do this in another thread here. Probably the Marygold one.

I'll get around to posting some Photoshop tutorials (probably) if I have time but I'm not that experienced using it and only know what I need to at any given time so I'm not that qualified.

A place to get textures? I've no idea but there are mapping textures available - I just don't know where but if you post in the mapping section of BU, someone will be able to help out. I'm sure it'd be okay to use them skinning too (if suitable).

This might sound a little unhelpful but it's the best I can do for the mo to answer the questions you asked :)

Ok I've gotten the hang of what I'm doing kinda, I"m just at a lost for a face. I want a face with a scar under the left eye and I want a smirk on her face. That I have no idea how to do.

Next up I want to know how to make a leather-like texture so I can edit and change some things around.

then finally I have no idea how to draw or color hair, can anyone help me out?

I don't think you'll be able to have one side/part of the skin looks a certain way. Unless there's a way to modify the model itself (?), then what you paint on one side will mirror the other side.
