Hey all,

Here's a few screenies of my latest work. Please bare in mind this is my first map and it's only about 25% complete. It's still lacking textures, lightning, and paths, not to mention a few details and most of the forward mast.

Sixteen inches of death.. hey, where's the mast?!

Looks great!
As for names, just name the ship and you have the name for the map.

Maybe you could name it after one of the Inf team.

Like USS-Warren or HMS-Gryphon or something like that (pick your own favorite team member) ;)

actualy most American ships (when named after people) are named after Admirals. However of late, most ships seem to be named after cities.

AFAIK only the US Navy still uses battleships and all the US battleships are named after a State: USS New Jersey, USS Iowa.

It's a wise person who knows the difference between free speech and cheap talk.

I know I know

But womens names are usually associated with naming of things espically vehicles cars, boats and what not. Even if the ship is named after a city or state it is still usually referred to as a "she".

Thanks for all the comments. Maybe I should post a poll? The four actual Iowa-class BB's built were the Iowa (61), New Jersey (62), Missouri (63), and Wisconsin (64). The Kentucky (66) was never completed and the Illinois (65) was cancelled before work even began.

LordNord, about the poly count. Most of the ship plays at 50-75 polys with a few exceptions that hit between 100-150. Usually, those are places where you really won't go unless you want a sniper to take a shot at you. The two big trouble spots are at the ends of the ship; I may have to lower the details or make the decks bigger to hide them.

Oh, yeah.. the Iowa-class battleships are huge! I couldn't find the aerial shot of the New Jersey docked alongside the Ranger and Independence but here's a good reference pic. Maybe I should work on a carrier map after I'm done with this one.

That's the New Jersey with the carrier Midway and three destroyers. And here's an extra pic I found while looking. Just look at the shock waves in the water!

Are they still using those types of battleships in the 20'th century??
I mean..one single Excocet Missile should do the trick..but i have to admit..This is WAY cooler Muahaha:D :D

Up until a year ago, the U.S. kept the battleships inactive and mobilized them when needed. Two of them participated in the Gulf War, bombarding ground targets with the guns and Tomahawks. But now I think they're retiring all of them. The Missouri has become a permanent musuem (and a library to boot!) at Pearl Harbor next to the Arizona memorial. It's amazing to think that the U.S. had planned to build a battleship class even larger than the Iowa. I think it was the Oregon-class or something like that.
