Mouse problem. Speed vs aim is very bad. Smoothing doesnt work.

Couldnt find any post about this so here goes:

No matter what i try, i can't find the 'good' setting for my mouse in 2.9
Right now i have mousespeed set to 16.50. Anything lower and i need my complete mousemat for just a side to side turn ( 180 ).
The downside is that aiming sucks at this high setting. I can't fine-aim. Only when i prone then it's pretty close to fine.
When i make mousespeed lower, e.g. around 11 , then aiming while standing goes a lot better but then i cant look a simple left / right without using the complete mousemat width + pickup mouse -> put down other side again to complete a turn.
I can't recall having this many difficulties in 2.86.

Other games such as Q3A, Elite Force, HL mods etc have good mouse control. Yes i know 2.9 control is somewhat different but for me it's very frustrating that in any other game i can aim good and in inf i need to really concentrate and push down my mouse extra hard, strain my wrist for a good aim. It gets me killed more than i like to mention.
Mousesmoothing does absolutely nothing for me. It doesnt do what it should do. There is no smoothing out small movement whatsoever.

I use a ms optical mouse with the latest drivers so dont go there. All other games are good.

I have mouse-acceleration disabled in windows because, well frankly, i hate mouse acceleration. So telling me to turn that on will probably piss me off.

If i come across harsh then sorry but i find it frustrating to have a sight move in steps of centimeters when it obviously shouldnt. Even if im standing up.

So is it me, my mouse, the mousespeed setting, no-good-mousesmoothing or what?

INF2.9 has a maximum rotating speed build in. This varies by weapon and position (stand, crouch, prone).

For me there is nearly no difference between an ingame-mouse-sensitivity of 1.00 and 10.00 and i never use more then 10cm of my mousepad (mostly not more than 5cm).

I have a Logitech MouseMan DualOptical on USB and all windows mouse-speed settings on highest (accell too, but this doesn't matter so much in INF29).

Is your mouse on PS/2 or USB or serial?

You can always try this bind trick

RightMouse=AltFire | SetSensitivity 4 | OnRelease SetSensitivity 15
This way , when you press the Right Mouse button , and if you LEAVE this button pressed , your mouse sensitivity will be lowered to 4 (gaining a lot of precision) while you are aiming your weapon.
Then when you release your finger from pressing the right button of your mouse , your mouse sensitivity will be back to 15
Press again (leave it pressed) and your sensitivity will be lowered again , while you are controlling your breath

-i tested ingame and it worked for me-

Maybe there are better ways with alias etc , but it is all i can think about actually
I hope it will help to solve your problem

It's an usb. I've used ps2 long ago but usb gets higher rates ( which im sure you know ) so i stick with usb.
Are you sure that mouse acceleration doesnt change anything? For me, acceleration changes mouse behaviour everywhere and in any game or app. Except quake3 which has a setting to overrule acceleration.
In windows my mousespeed is about 80 (100 being highest)

I'm thinking that 2.9 is maybe biased towards enabled acceleration. So people who have it disabled won't get that good mouse control. I haven't tested this but i'll do it.

You say you only have to move the mouse maybe max 10 cm.
For max. 10cm i have to put my mousespeed on > 16.50 otherwise it wont work.

What is your in game mousespeed btw?

{edit fm instaposted}
Thats a good idea fm. Lemme see how i would best use that. Ofcourse all my keys around asdf are full already. Maybe i bind it with crouch key.
Or with 'holding breath' might be best.

Anyway, i'll let you know how it works out.

Personnally i think that using the key bound to AltFire seem to be the best choice.
As AltFire is used to aim and to control breath , to lower the sensitivity in the same bind should be the perfect way to go as it feels really natural and easy to learn ingame .

I have my sensitivity at 2.4, with speed set in Windows 3/10 and low acceleration. There's something very strange about your setup there.

Trackball... hmm. If you're used to a mouse, don't bother, it'll take you months to get used to it.

Tonight i tested what you adviced fieldmedic, but the thing is that everytime when i raise / lower sights , there is just half-, or a quarter of a second pauze.
I could try making an alias then i guess but if this slight pauze keeps on then i'm taking it off the raising sights action.
Furthermore tho, i think i should lower my sensitivity regardless. If that means i'm gonna need a big part of mousemat to look let or right then so be it.
I find it's upsetting me more and more.
Tomorrow i'll start with sensitivity 10. See how that goes.

Thanks all for your input btw.
