    Well:

    Self shots: I must admit I play INF more than only 5 minutes a day and I never realised a self hit before BS4. And leaned behind geometry, be it prone or crouched (so the most dangerous positions to be self hit) is the way I shoot most times.

    Lich, the problem is that I cannot reproduce this problem. The only time I observed it was by accident. But as I said, I do not close the door at RT/BS4 yet to explain this problem...


    EDIT:... or maybe, yurch could confirm, but before any kind of hit detection is processed and dammage is give, the player hit is checked to be sure he is not the instigator. That test is even more robust than the one in the original INF hit detection.

    We had self-hits during 2.9 betatesting too. Mostly with the P90 when we were proned on an edge of the terrain.

    The problem was solved by adjusting the offsets IIRC.

    I don't see what the edge of the terrain could do in this process to influence self hits. The only thing I could see to explain this intereaction is that the was a ricochet on the structure

    Yeah, I've been adding every kind of check I can think of to stop that thing... Lich has sent me a bunch of emails about it already. ;)
    It may be related to weapon collision, it changes the offsets on occasion IIRC.

    I am quite sure it is not caused by ricochet. There were some positions where there was this not really possible without the bullet flying around half the map. I was leaned against geometry anyways (firing along a wall, I had to lean 'against' it to get a hiding bot). The offset theory is a much better candidate I think.

    Please don't change general ballistics with RT. I know yurch had a setting that made bullets go at 60% speed. 100m is a 100m is a 100m, no matter what it looks like. I think you should leave the speed of bullets alone. I don't think it was a good idea in the first place to adjust the bullet speed, not to mention that fact that it is annoying to have to relearn the zero on the sniper rifles.

    It's difficult not to touch at all at the ballistics since this is what I extend. On the ballistic scale, as I said in my readme and it should also be the default setting, if you put it to 100% it should be exactly the same as the original INF one.

    The way I work is that I create options for players and admin to use. I do not intend to hardcode values like this one that have such a drastic effect.

    Just like complex random damage, which I intend to implement into RealTargets, it will be fully user configurable.

    Sorry for the lack of update. I temporarly paused my work with RealTargets to get some other things done with the INF modteam. I'm a little stuck there and am waiting for some info so I'll go back to work on RT.

    Next I will look into leaning for standing player and check out for problems reported to me about missing shots when shooting from above or bellow. After that i will see how the hit detection can be tweaked for moving players. Once this is done an stable, standing will be finished and I'll be moving to crouched stance. Expect a new version sometimes next week.

    That would be nice... I problem is that I have no test server with admin rights where I can install a new version of RT all the time except my local machine here... which is behind quite a few layers of firewall... All testing I did where behind it. I'll try to setup a test server for a few players... and get it work through the firewall. Once that is done testing with more people will be possible.

    Ah! And I volunteer to be shot at :D

    Not sure if this is any help, but I experienced my first self kill today. Botmatch on Facing Worlds, lying prone on the top of one of the temple things, aiming down somewhere between 20 and 40 degrees, I pulled off something like 10,000 points of damage right into my head. Had randomdamage on (+-.75, I believe).

    Yet again, prone... Thus it can't be cause by realtargets hit detection since for prone players RT uses the exact code used originally by INF 2.9

    Then again, for prone players the same "checks" for self hits and secondary hits are done. than for all other stances...

    I must be missing something.

    dont you have to copy over your UT maps into the inf directory to play them in inf? this is where you get UT2k4 and play tango down in face classic :)

    I figured it'd just be more of the same for you, but just in case it proved useful eventually, also figured it couldn't hurt to give you another case.

    Nope; just edit your Infiltration.ini. There're two lines that reference the standard UT map directory that have been commented out; just undo that nasty bit of knaverya nd you're good to rock and go!

    Actually, the angle info might be of use. Problem with that thing is that I can't get to reproduce it.


    I made me just remember the old times where i was chasing people with the m16 in morpheus and sniping bots with the robar in facing worlds...

    Holy crap, just did it again. 0 degree angle or nearly that, 783 damage (not headshot), robar, lying prone at spawn on Facing Worlds aiming straight across at enemy spawn. Fired on a bot, center mass, killing myself.

    Did you see any hit message, like 'lowertorso' or something like that? (should not, but I'm asking anyways)
    What did it say in the console?
    What did it say in the logs?
    Are you running RT version 1.1.0b?
