hi , I am a modder specializing in 3d art , and i am assembling a team of modders for a total conversion mod .

the team is currently looking for all branches of developers , but I will list the more

pertinent ones here :

--3d modelers ( 3ds max preferred ) ,

--animators ( either 3ds max or maya preferred ; there are enough tools to transfer work between the two , or if you know of an application that you can use , that will also allow for painless transfer of all data to either 3ds max or maya is preferred . in short though , I would like to recruit a 3ds max animator because my characters models are made in 3ds max ; )

--concept artists ( though this is the last thing on our priorities list , one or more concept artists would be great to have on the team for pre-visualization/environment specific artwork .any artwork you produce is officially your property , so feel free to do anything you would like to with your copy . upon submitting it to the team for use in the development of our software , assuming you are an active member , the artwork will be displayed in the media section of any press releases , news submissions , and in a gallery on our website ... *Note :Since the engine choice has not been confirmed , and there is quite a bit of limbo for now , you will have the chance to work freelance and at your leisure if desired , and the deadlines are quite flexible ; however if there are any stringent deadlines , please do not miss them entirely , i like to maintain an efficiency level with all members including myself , mainly because your work is proof that your are competent enough to hold a job position if / when the mod becomes a fully licensed shipped-title .)

Mappers ( anyone who has mapped using unreal technology will probably take precedence over other applicants , though we will not deny anyone a position if they are capable enough in other mapping editors )

--Programmers ( C++ knowledge preferred , but any of the object oriented scripting languages will be a very good asset to the team . although we do need all the help we can get , including the scheduled in-house help form 4 talented programmers , we may accept someone who has a fair amount of understanding of an OOP language. )

--texture artists ( a member of the team ((2d artist)) and I use photoshop , but any recognized high-end image application will be fine ) .

--Web designers ( I have a template made for a flash site, so flash would be preferred , but if you can make a solid and interesting high-tech looking site in html or php , then you will be recruited as well .)

* Final Notes ... Though it may seem as though we are only accepting the most capable of mod artists on the team , we are also very giving of knowledge and resources to the modding community . if you are just beyond the beginner level or have attained an intermediate status , please don't hesitate to apply for any position you feel comfortable with . we will happily train / give assignments to a new recruit who not at the semi-professional level yet . we look at building a modification as a "whole-community" type deal , and it would not be possible without the talent and giving spirit of the mod community at all . with that I think I’ve written enough to explain our purpose , which is to produce professional quality software with the reward being the satisfaction that you feel when your work is completed and to the best of your abilities , and the future promise of securing your ideal job position using the mod as a milestone in your portfolio presentation .

thank you all , whether applying or advertising , and just for being part of the tremendous community that is the modding community .

i must say that while i have not givin specifics about the game's genre or concept , that i have written a very comprehensive "help-wanted" essay to clarify the intent of what the mod will try to accomplish . please read on further if you care to be understand the logic behind my decision to be vague ...

first of all , thank you angel mapper . you are actually one of the best mappers around , and i appreciate the compromised position I have put myself in with initial post . however it is far too early in development to be giving out details , as securing copyright/rights are difficult if all you have is a few models and a drawing . the mod has been under way with just myself and a few recruits following the initial conceptual design for only a short period , all things considered .

while i realize i am asking alot , having very few pieces of work to show or even a fully functional , professional design document , i am not giving out the details unless i see proof of concept work from an applicant ; thats is very simple and is not going to change , the team's intellctual property is not going to be sacrificed .

with that said , i will just say that no company nor any respectable development team would reel on about their design concept with almost no work to show . this mod is just beginning , and will hopefully grow if you can be patient and reasonable , while understanding that winning concpets are not written everyday . you may debate whether the mod's concept is in facta winning one , but that will remain for later stages of development when the design can be securely disclosed ...

again thank you all for listening , and thank you for being a part of the great modding community .

I don't quite understand. Are you using someone else's IP and are trying to get permission to use it? If not, then you are far too worried about idea stealing than you need to be. In the case of mods, it's extremely rare to hear about theft. And you are probably taking yourself far too seriously. I hate to break it to you, but your ideas are in all likelyhood not unique, and getting into the realm of copyrights and NDAs is very detrimental to a mod team's morale since it creates a feeling of paranoia. You are not doing this professionally (yet). There is no money involved. Lighten up. :)

I would be more worried about not getting any interest in the mod than in someone stealing your ideas. Very few skilled mappers/coders/animators will bother to email a mod leader when no information is given about the mod in the forums, even with the promise that information will be given to them through email if they're qualified. I think the reason for that is that YOU are the one asking for help, to treat potential members as if you were doing them a favor doesn't sit very well with a lot of people, especially the skilled members of the community.

You must go into GREAT DEPTH about the mod in your post to attract attention to it, otherwise people will either go on with their own ideas or join other mod teams where they know exactly what the mod is about, where a friendlier atmosphere is provided.

If there is something unique about your mod that you feel warrants the secrecy, that is exactly what you should be advertising to get people interested.

well thank you Poindexter , both for your witty and skillful poisoning of my thread , and for the negativity and insuling nature of your post .

i will agree that I am the one looking for help , but help works both ways . noone sees mappers or modelers go into a forums and neglect to post screens of a mod or a current model or skin , because it is not "rippable " .

concepts and ideas , on the other hand , are very " rip-friendly " if you can understand the idea behind that notion . i would be inviting anyone with the good fortune to stumble upon my thread to steal and utilize/matrix the concepts that are in my opinion on the highest apex of my modding expereince's domain .

so angel mapper , while i have seen and respect your work , your ignorance and crude behavior are un-acceptable , you are not a moderator of this forum , and are not appreciated because of your ridiculous beliefs that the party submitting "help-wanted" needs to coddle and cater to the needs of the fragile artist . these people are artists , and if they are in afct fragile i cant use them on the team anyways , so please stop whining about the density of information given along with "help-wanted" threads . not just because you are'nt an authority , but because you're not even worthy of consideration for a mod team position .

Heh, well good luck with your mod anyway, but you really should take my advice seriously. I'll let SolidSnake or Phoenix or someone else put it to you more bluntly than I, I tend to try and put it as nicely as possible but you apparently need it bashed into your head a bit harder. :)

*Pages SolidSnake to the Mod Recruitment forums* :D

Yeah I agree with Angel Mapper there, you need to let everyone know what your idea is. simply saying what you intend to do, you will not get any 'artists' flocking to your idea. frankly, from my point of view I wouldn't want to help you out. I need to know the benefits of me joining your mod and contribuating to it. I also need to know something about it so I can have an interest in what I am doing.

Look at it this way. When posting for help for your mod ask yourself if you would find the idea interesting from the 'artists' perspective. Why would I devote my preciuos time to contribute to this mod if I know nothing about it, or it is just another OMG CS clone?

I could go into a lot more depth on this but it has been covered many many times before in this forum. do a search or read the stickies :B

aright well youre all entitled to your opinions , and while i may have missed the better mappers because of your useless posts , i think ive made my focus on the modding scene quite clear .

you are not auhorities in this forum , and if i remember correctly , the saying goes " if you dont have anything positive to say , dont say anything at all " . will since this idea has gone to hell , let me tell ya that you guys stick together like a couple of circle jerkers , so i wont argue the point any further .

if you dont want to be part of the mod's progression , you can only hurt the efforts of those involved by stating more info needs to be given out . i dont have the means to reserve the rights to any of my concepts , so i will most certainly not give them away for free on a public forum . it would not be cool if one of you guys came to the forums and said " hey im startin a map , heres the details on what its going to be , and , ah yes i forgot heres a layout concept i was thinking of " , and then have the map made by someone else , whether they complete it bofore you or not , whether its better than yours or not , it was still ripped from your post . so dont think that for a second this isnt a public forums . also dont forget that while you most likely have the admin's backs on this cause of your ballsucking attitudes and snot-ass statuses , i dont care who you are and would think it proper if you left this thread for good . now **** you to all who demand more from those who have less .

We are just giving some contructive criticism. I am pretty sure that any of the moderators of this forum will agree with us in what we have said.

I highly doubt that people are going to rip off of other peoples work like that. and if they do, the original post of that person who's map it really is will win becuase he made the post and community recognizes him as the one behind it. the person that copies the map and then releases it will most likely get branded for stealing other peoples work and noone will take them seriuosly again.

Sorry if we are seeming harsh, but this is part of the test to becoming an actaul working, reconginzed MOD. if you ask in any modding forum they will all say the same.

yeah , i understand your frame of mind and idea behind what you say , however youre highly unwelcome in this threead , though the mods will mediate and this being a public forum you always have that freedom to be a clasless a-hole to anyone and everyone who doesnt adhere to your all-powerful rules of thumb .

as far as " looking at it from the artist's perspective " , and " devoting precious time to a mod " you know very little about ... you are not required to devote any time , and if you found any of my first post to be well said , you may think it to be advantageous to submit an email to further communication . so theres really no need for this abomination of intellect that has gown down in this thread .

if you wanna fight a mod , start your own damn mod man , and see what a pain in the ass it is to restrict the well-known concept-ripping fools who often browse the forums only for ideas , and still do your best to the the word out that there is a mod coming with a high quality profile . you hinder the progress of good .

if you wont be respectful of my methods of recruiting , i will report you to an admin . if you wont consider my methods of recruitment based on the logic i clearly put forth acceptable , then i really have no desire to recruit you , and therefore will also report your negativity and "flaming "posts to an admin in that case as well . i guess it all comes down to who is right and wrong , and hopefully justice will be the outcome ;

you have not only bantered a project manager for being cautious about his un-protected work , you have defeated a portion of the purpose of the thread in general and therefore should be warned that your behavior is unacceptable . and i ask anyone who reads this thread to weigh the arguments justly .

To be honest, flame-baiting like this isn't a great way to inspire potential team members with confidence in your ability to deal with people and lead a potential team towards creating a successful product. Regardless of how brilliant you ideas, displaying such intransigence, egotism and paranoia in your posts will do absolutely nothing for your efforts to attract a group of talented individuals to make your mod.

To put it more bluntly, if you can't deal with simple constructive criticism on a message board, I can't see how you hope to be able to lead a mod team.

You're being pretty defensive. First of off, not welcome in this thread? What? If you wish you get the help from the community, it pays to be friendly first. IMO, everyone who's posted isn't attacking anything; they're offering you some pretty valuable advice.

Secondly, yeah, I'm gonna have to echo that advice. If I was really concerned with people ripping you off, I'd be more cautious with what I had in store to begin with. It's a generally good idea to not base what you're doing based on what others are doing. Besides, if you list what you're gonna do here first, you already have evidence for being "first" should someone else claim it.

Nothing is known. In fact, we don't even know what you're capable of. If you won't show off what you're planning on doing, at least inform everyone what you've done. It generally gets you a vote of confidence.

Until then, it's difficult differentiating what you're doing with the many "died at planning stages" mods I'm sure everyone has seen since the days of Quake 2. This thread has all the "bad signs": Huge list of wanted positions, nothing is shown, the leader does not indicate his or her own position (what are you anyways, the idea guy?), and when everyone points out these... flaws... somebody gets really defensive, as if he was in denial.

Anyways, good luck. I'm sure nobody will mind a second thread that delves deeper into details.

wel i appreciate your enthusiasm , however i must inform you that it will be copyrighted and you therefore will be reprimanded for your actions , however ambitious you think of them . i only feel it my obligation to say this because i believe in fair-play and am not going to BS you either .

i will personally see to it that you regret and stealing of intellectual property to the fullest extent i am allowed and thus have the right to do so . i will admit i think that you are joking more than i beleieve your are not , but either way i will protect my team and myself from valueless trash such as yourself , and will enjoy doing it .

if you people would please step to the right and proceed off my nuttz , i would appreciate the relief . you not only stormed my post with nonesense , but did so in a cannabalistic manner . i do take into consideration your effeiciency and effitiveness in turning the entire forum against me , one person at a time , but i think that you guys are just what is referred to as " lamers " with nothing better to do that fight a crusade of infomation piracy .

well, you will be reprimanded for YOUR actions, because it's copyrighted material I'm going to steal is going to be mine and I'm going to sue you for using my material, before I owned it

and I will make YOU regret that I steal your intellectual property, which is going to be mine and your team can insult me how much you want, you owe me inca gold, dude, inca gold

and inca gold is rare and I'm going to pimp my car to drive with my homies and my lawyer herbert into your house and then it's my house and my home is my caslte!

PWNED!
