Map idea

I was just posting in the Unwheel with DeathRace? thread when this idea hit me. I think it would work best with either race or big air, and would take some heavy coding if possable at all...
The track would be a basic oval, NASCAR type track (yeah, not to hard yet). But instead of putting the pit on the center of the track, the track is flooting in space, and you have a normal UT2K4 map in the center :eek: Hold on, this is where it gets good....I'm seeing a map like "Face Classic" in the center of this map.
Here's where it get's complicated. Ofcourse being UW you can't play the Face map, it would have to be used like a sky box, the tricky part about making this map is that on the Face map, you can see bots fighting each other, and really playing CTF :eek:
Can it be done, and are there any takers? I'd try it, but my mapping skills are limmited. I haven't even tried the 2k4 ued yet, let alone a UW map... :rolleyes:

Yea, it would definately take coding, if even that would make it work. A simpler approach is UnWheel vehicles in ONS, they add and drive fine; the cameras even work. But, now the problem is ONS won't play on a UnWheel server:p Interesting idea:)

OT....

good races tonight. We forgot to play rally though :rolleyes: :lol:
too bad the server wouldn't let us on "Ocean Run". I like that map, but the fog is a bit heavy. It would be nice to know in advanced that there's a HARD right turn comming up :D

It can be done easily with warp zones, although the bots will not play well because they'll be set to play as "race" and it will be a bit laggy too.

Other than that it's easy.

Easy for you to say ;) Perhaps you'll take a stab at it and release it in some sort of UW map pack, or just by itself.
What makes you think it would be laggy? The cpu trying to figure out what the hell is going on :lol:
What if on the Face map, you just saw random exsplosions, and every now and then you hear the announcer call a theam score/victory. You should be able to do this with triggers I think. Or do you not like the idea? Geuss I should've asked that first huh :rolleyes:

Well the polys for the racetrack alone would border 5000 and hen you've got the entirety of Face Classic (built to be just enough polys to be playable) in the center, and bots in 1000 poly character models and bots in 5000+ car models.

You do the maths

ok, but do you think it's possable to something like that and maKe it playable?
Even if there's no "Face" action LOL . Just the face map with the UW track going around it?

I am a stubborn, opinionated, do it myself kind of guy; for better and worse:p I like my own ideas, or at least executing an idea the way that interests and is original to me. This is just my way of saying why I wouldn't want to execute your idea, even though I see merit to the concept. But, I love the two way discussion that is taking place in this thread and a few others; someone suggests an idea, and we pick it apart to see what might fit and improve UnWheel. For instance, I am making a track that was sort of suggested by the Deathrace idea, it has two separate mirror image tracks that interesect and cross each other. The playerstarts will be placed with even numbers on one side, odd on the other. To win, you not only have to be fastest, but also avoid the collisions at the intersections:) Kind of a demolition Rally, but it takes no extra code or gametype. Don't give up on us, good ideas always take time:)

I'll give it a go, but you'd need an experienced modeller to take down the polys of Face classic, cos most of it's just one big model.

Not bad :D the "8" track was a good idea. Do you have any other maps avalable for downloading? Also, I think I asked about a map pack download, but don't remember what the answer was :rolleyes: I'll browse the forum and see if I can find it....

Most of my maps are just upgraded older versions, so making a map pack with those in would break compatibility with other people's versions, and the servers, so really it's best just to wait until the next release (no I don't know when it will be)

Well... I have been making some special track meshes (including a barrel roll and some banked turns - youy're right Steve, making the barrel roll low poly is impossible). All I got left is to UV Map and that'll be a pain too.

ProjectX or StevenHorton, any chance of getting either one of you to remake this map into a "real" UW map and use a song from my folder "Cigarette" on it?
Maybe we can sucker Snipe into hosting it LOL ;)
What I was thinking when I proposed the idea was for the map to go around the Face map, not over it.
Now that I think about it, face itself might make for a good race map....Make the track go around the 2 towers (the back side) and put side rails around the whole thing so you don't just fly off the map for bad driving LOL

I would, but I'm busy at the moment, I've got several maps in development (UWRL-OldForest - with Dynamic Weather, and UWRL-LightTrack - with more new gimmicks than you can shake a stick at)

Not to mention I'm renovating some of my older maps too.

Oh btw, I've finally got around to fixing the problem that the Flair F1 has with UWRC-Industry.
