More linkage hopefully slightly less inane than previous one:

This one is teh best! :)
UnrealWiki:
MilkShape can load the default male or female UT (not UT2003) skeletons for binding to a custom model, then provide .psk export for combining with existing .psa data. Version 1.6.6 cannot export .psa, which limits the customization possiblities. Models bound in MS3D to the UT skeletons can probably be used for UT2003 (confirmation would be appreciated), but there are subtle differences in the skeletons that may need to be taken into account.
MilkShape 3D v.1.7.0 beta is currently being offered on the Chumbalum Soft site; among its new features are .psk/.psa import/export options (unevaluated as yet) that use the UT2003 skeletons.

This may help.
http://www.swissquake.ch/chumbalum-soft/ms3d/tutorials/ut2003/index.html

I've never tried it, let me know if you get it to work.

edit: if you do a search on the Chumbalum-soft forums for username "meowcat" you'll get alot of hits concerning UT2003/4 model creation and importing. He's made a mod with milkshape (Tango Down) and may be able to help out with a more detailed explanation concerning making and importing models into UT2004.

I spoke with meowcat, and he basically said that you'll need 3dsmax to import your own models after making them in Milkshape. That's kinda the same thing that everyone is saying from the searching I've done.

However meowcat did say that Mete's tutorial does work and he'll look at it more closely later. Maybe there's a way you can take the old character mesh and modify it enough without detaching/attaching the skeleton.

give it to me, i'll be your friend.

seriously though, this isn't really the place to ask.

I did a search for "3ds max" at Atari and got a lot of hits.

Surely there's something there that will help. But I don't think you'll be able to go from gmax to 3ds max. You'll have to model it again, that shouldn't be hard, seems to me the hard part would be the texturing.

Maybe, but you'll have to try it first. I know that getting into modeling (or meshing in my case) for the first time is pretty bewildering but you've got to do a lot of searching/asking on your own to figure things out.

Try the tutorial, if it doesn't work then go to those forums and ask questions.

Also try using the search button on all the forums I linked you to. Sometimes you stumble onto something really informative.
Search is usually in the top left corner.

I'm sure you'll figure it out.

good luck ;)
