I feel I am making a newb error here, but anyways here's my install story attempt. After I unzipped UTXMP, I first tried to drag the folder directly into the UT2k4 app itself via the right click, show package contents in Mac OS X. I booted up UT2k4, and looked under the user mods menu, and saw nothing. So I then took all of the files and put them in their respective folders, i.e. System files in the UTXMP folder went into the System folder in UT2k4. That worked somewhat, as I got the gametype to show up even though the mod still did not appear in the user mods menu. However I discovered that when I was trying to play vanilla CTF(against bots), that my voice sounds were using UTXMP's instead of UT2k4's. Besides that, some of my binds got messed up.

After that discovery, I then attempted to uninstall UTXMP, and screwed up somewhere because UT2k4 would not launch after I had uninstalled it. Figuring it was a good time for a reinstall that is exactly what I did last night, updating UT2k4 to the most recent version, and the ECE. No other mods are installed at this time in it. My previous install had old versions of CTF4 UnWheel and cDOM. So now you have where I'm still stuck scratching my head at what's going wrong with trying to use UTXMP. If this topic has been covered already, I am sorry. I did a few searches and could not come up with anything. If I missed something though please feel free to point me in that thread's direction.

First thing I want to say is do NOT give up getting this mod installed. I know it works on the Mac. And, it is in my opinion one of the best (the best) mods available for UT2004. It is an awesome game. So keep at it. You will be rewarded for your efforts once you get it working.

A website that has some very helpful information for getting games to work on the Mac is:
http://www.macologist.org/

Here is another site that specializes in Mac gaming and covers lots of information about installing UT2004 mods on the mac:
http://santaduck.com/

Here is a link to a UTXMP Launcher for OS X on the Macologist site:
http://www.macologist.org/dload.php?action=file&file_id=125

I used to be a mac guy myself for years. But, I finally tired of the poor gaming performance and limited selection of games available. Started "switching" by building myself a PC box "just for gaming." Then, I ended up transitioning to WinXP. I found OS X and WinXP more similar than OS 9 and OS X, so the switch was not a big deal for me. I have never regetted getting out of the Jobs Reality Distortion Field and have a few more dollars in my pocket too. :)

Anyways, stick to it. There are others in this forum who know more than I do about getting UTXMP to run on a mac too. I am sure they will add some info to this thread.

Thanks for the links! :) I'm giving them a little read through right now. I'll be giving it another shot tonight with that launcher application, and see if it works.

I agree with you though, from what little I played against the bots on my earlier install, this mod is some nice stuff :). It brings back that special feeling I had when I first played Unreal Fortress in UT99 of "Now THIS is a fun mod!". So nice to see something to break away from the realism mod clones as well.

I was about to build my own PC myself earlier this year, but then they announced the Macintels, so I've decided to wait for those and try a dual boot setup for hopefully the best of both worlds. :)

Supposedly, they're not going to allow the dual boot, somehow. I'm sure someone will find a workaround about 2 secs after they're released anyway.

UT:XMP on OS X

To run XMP on OS X:

- it's best to start with a clean install of UT 2k4 (though not necessary if you know everything you've put in there already is clean)
- update to 3355
- Open the Ureal Tournament 2004 package.
- create a folder inside the package and name it UTXMP
- move all the files/folders from your XMP download into the UTXMP folder you've just created in the UT2k4 package (preferably from beta 2 only)
- download UTModLauncher
- run UTModLauncher

at this point it should run without any problems. The launcher should detect XMP as an available mod. If you have a problem with the game quitting right after trying to start a game, then you must have beta 1 stuff loafing around on your computer and you must check this thread

scroll down to where I posted and also read the related posts. Good luck, it should work without a hitch if you do those things.

Thank you! That worked great! :) I guess it was a good thing I reinstalled after all.

I read at http://news.com.com/Apple+throws+the+switch%2C+aligns+with+Intel+-+page+2/2100-7341_3-5733756-2.html?tag=st.next that they were basically saying they weren't going to sell it, but it was up to the user to install it and they weren't going to stop them. Has a new statement been issued since then?
