I posted this on the troubleshooting forum to no affect. If anyone can help me with this problem let me know.

Every time I go into Unreal now it starts the nali castle thing and then it just freezes. No keys work and the game is frozen. I have to alt+tab or alt+esc out and shut it down from alt+ctrl+del. I was playing the other day, I alt+tabbed out to talk on an IM, then when I came back my mouse wouldn't work. So I closed Unreal out and went back in and when I went back in it froze. I had this problem once before but instead of just freezing it was also extrememely dark. Reinstalling fixed it but I'd rather not have to keep reinstalling the game every other week. Anyone know what the problem is? If so, let me know please. Thanks.

Just a guess but when you say it is extremely dark it sounds like the wrong rendering method may be selected. You should be able to start it in safemode and go to advanced options to check it and change it if nessecary. Voodoos run in 3dfx glide.

You should also take out your Banshee card seeing as the voodoo 1000 is a better card and does the same thing. The bansee could also be a source of the problem. Your computer could be trying to use both cards and it causing conflicts.

Thanks. I went in in safe mode and messed around witha few options and now it'll run. Now my only problem is one I've had for a while. I can't get above 800X600 res. I have a 17" monitor and my monitor's max res is 1280x1024 and cards' max res is 1600x1200 so I have no idea what my be causing that. A few months ago one day the res just shot down from 1280x1024 to 800x600 and eversince it won't go back. When I try and go up above 800x600 it does the usual screen blink, but twice and goes down to 512x460 or something like that. Anyone know what would cause this? Thanks.

Hey, while I was going through my options I saw this. Anyone know what it is and what it may cause? (the failed to load part that is)

There isnt really a problem here. The voodoo2 has a limited resolution... 800x600 is as high as it can go.

2 Voodoo2's in SLI can run at 1024x768, but it'd be much more worthwhile to get one of the new-gen cards.

You're stuck with 800x600 for now though /~unreal/ubb/html/frown.gif

Well man I'd go with that except for the fact that previous to unreal's screwup I was playing at 1024x768 and 1280x1024. Every other game I have I play at 1280x1024 so it's not my card that can't do it. It's something in the game somewhere. Just need to figure out what.

Well, I updated my banshee drivers and that solved the problem. Turns out the banshee sometimes has problems with version 219 and up. Now the only problem I have is that since I installed 225 the only servers that show up in my Unreal browser are my favorites.
