Kinetic Effect of Bullet Impact on the body

Seriously, I hit a person with 1 bullet from my Desert Eagle or from my M16 and they shoot me back instantly.

Now, last time I checked, a bullet from a Desert Eagle or an Assault Rifle (M-16) would hit you anywhere and spin you into the ground.

Any plans on modeling this? Half of the fights I get myself into in INF are at point blank range, I hit the other guy first with 2 or 3 shots of my DE and they simply turn around and pump a shotgun in my face.

Please, fix this, it is very annoying and unrealistic.

eeehm, so.... would you please explain my how it might be possible that the kinetic energy of the bullet leaving the barrel (recoil) can be lower than the bullet hitting the target?

You telling me that a DE shot at point blank range has NO kinetic energy? My god man, even a paintball gun will make you topple over if its on high power.

Maybe you dont understand what im saying. If a bullet hits you, it WILL knock you in the direction the bullet was going.

In INF I see people getting shot at POINT BLANK range with large caliber (not .50 though) weapons and standing still as if nothing had happened (well, they do get their health reduced, but thats not the point).

Have a bullet impact effect on the soldiers. If you are getting hit by a rifle bullet you sure as hell cant turn around and shoot that person back with your shotgun, you'll be too busy falling over.

Have you ever played soldier of fortune? The first map has got to be the most fun I have had turning people into puppets with a shotgun. If you don't have it go buy it. If you shoot someone in the shoulder their shoulder is knocked back and if you hit them in the gut, they double over. It has some type of active blast code involved and the effects are completely different each time you shoot someone. Its the greatest, and very very fun to shoot people in places and gasp at the amazing realism portrayed with the blast.

    It all depends.
M16 bullets are 5.56 (small) and travel very fast.
They'll go right through you at point blank.
If its a shotgun blast at point blank, you're getting hit by a bunch of bullets with a much larger total surface area, and that would knock you back.
The desert eagle with .50 cal bullet at point blank might knock you back.
Has anybody here been shot before to tell the tale?

 No, he's not saying it has NO kinetic energy- pay attention. He's saying that the kinetic energy of the bullet when it hits the target is less or equal to when it was at the muzzle. (If the impact will knock you off your feet, the recoil will probably knock the shooter of his, too.)

A 200 lb man walking at 3 feet per second has 600 pounds per foot per second of momentum. A 158 grain .357 magnum JSP coming out of a Desert Eagle at 1240 feet per second has 27.9 pounds per foot per second of momentum. Therefore, it would take over 20 point blank DE shots hitting the man at the same time (and all of them staying in his body) just to stop his forward momentum.

Most reported cases of people being thrown around by small arms bullets probably involve the shock of being shot triggering a reaction in the person's leg muscles, etc.

I think it will be added in a future version on Inf ...but think about all the programmation behind this man ...its hard ! And they have more important things to do for now ...like the online bugs ...But I agree with what you say ... :D

A bullet will knock you over if it hits you in the bone.

I agree that at pointblank the rounds may go through the body... bone or no bone. But the fact remains, no one will ever take ONE bullet at point blank range in the chest/groin/legs and be able to turn around, aim, run sideways or bunny hop while firing... and keep on doing it for 10 minutes.

    Bullet Impact and Torque

Thought I'd add my take to this apparently confusing and flame-ridden issue. While I agree with DeadEyeDan's momentum calculations, to directly subtract the momentum of the bullet from that of the running man implies that the bullet hit him exactly at his center of mass. If it hits him anywhere else, there will be torque. Say for example it hits in the shoulder, something like 1-2 feet away from the center of the body. Assuming the bullet just lodges in the shoulder (which probably wouldn't happen in real life), all the momentum is transferred to that area. The momentum of the bullet is much greater than the original momentum of the shoulder area in the opposite direction, since the shoulder weighs much less than the entire man.

So the man's shoulder gets some angular momentum. There is no counter-torque to spin him the other direction save maybe the friction between his feet and the ground, not much if he's in the middle of running. (If he were standing still it would at the very least throw his aim off). This angular stuff doesn't affect his center of mass motion, so DeadEyeDan is again correct that he will keep moving forward while spinning. If you're in the middle of a running stride and suddenly find yourself facing backwards but still moving in the same direction you were running, odds are you won't keep your balance, thus the falling. Well, that made sense to me at least.

In my example I counted 100% of each bullet's momentum- all stayed inside the body. Hitting bone wouldn't affect it at all if the bullet wasn't going to over-penetrate anyway, unless you're talking about making a leg unable to support the man's weight (but that would be called dropping him, not knocking him over).

I do agree that the punishment for being hit should be increased (and I believe Shakken said the team is planning on doing so), but small arms bullets generally do not knock people down; they just make people fall.

BTW the 5.56 won't go "straight trough" you, it will fragment and jumble your internal organs.

Now a 7.62x39 or 7.62x51 (US) WILL pass trough you, this is due to the nature of the bullet, they don't fragment, they just tumble (and in case of the 7.62x51 a good chance is that it won't even do that).
Which is why a 5.56x45 may actually do MORE damage then a 7.62x51 or a 7.62x39 but the 7.62 rounds have more penetrating power.

People dont get knocked over by bullets, christ, they flinch as a result of pain, yes, but they arent knocked over.

I have seen people get shot, in 1996 (or was it 98...i forget) i was in a demonstation that went bad, and resulted in the police opening fire into the croud, i saw people drop to the ground and twist in pain, hell yeah, but people turning airborne as a result of bullet inpact is a stricktly Hoolywood thing!

I agree that we need more penalty for getting hit, but theres gotta be another way

Look at the recent icidents concerning the 2 albanians and the macedonian policemen, the albanian s got shot to death.

    -they DIDN't FLY
-NO CLOUDS OF BLOOD (it was damn hard to see that they were even hit, they just stopped moving).

Well since were going for realism, No Flying (the way it is now is just fine), no blood clouds.

    5.56

BTW 5.56 will go through at point blank.
Yes, after a while, say 50 to 100 yards, it will penetrate and then tumble and bounce, or so they told me.
Now, I've never been shot, nor have I shot anybody, but lets say you join the military.
That is what they tell you.
They lie a lot, but I don't think they lie about weapon specifications.

    I WAS SHOT TWICE

well...i was shot twice with a sigsauer p228. one bullet hit my shoulder and jolted my body sharply to the right and the second bullet hit my upper arm which sent my 180 degrees and to the floor. THAT STOPPED ME MOVING!

    Paintball

Under NO circumstances would a paintball gun make anybody topple over. It is highly unlikely that the targets movement is even effected in a noticable manner. Shoot me in any position doing any movement with any paintgun at any range and it will not effect me, or anybody else in the same situation, in any noticable manner. There is no indication whatsoever that the person has been hit other than a splat and a yell of "I'm hit!".

    Damn

Well that totally had to suck # 15.
I'm sick of arguing about this.
    It all depends on everything.
And if you want INF to have everything be perfect, only a supercomputer could run it.
You need to draw the "real" line somewhere.

please explain to me how more animations would increase the cpu power to run a game?
More animations don't affect the game in any way but the size of the game.
