I'm fairly sure some of that footage was from monster garage.
Now to go and listen to Wagner.

How do you guys get the URLs for the vids?
Going to the sites with embedded WMP crashes my browser, so I can't view them.
But I can download them with URLs.

A lot of that was shot in Arizona.

Yep. Dillon Precision, and Dillon Aero. Off of Bell road in Phoenix Arizona. Dillon used to put on some of the biggest private MG shoots in the U.S. Lots of M45 mounts with all kinds of junk on em. ANM3's, GAU2AA's, MG40's..

As to miniguns.. The M2 will punch big holes, at long range. The 249 is light, and fun to shoot. But the GAU2 puts religion in you fast. They don't destroy targets, they disintegrate em. The fifty is loud. Heartstoppingly loud. But a GAU2 makes a sound you'll never forget. On the shooting end, it's all gear noise, and clatter. The damn motor is a series wound 24V rig, that just howls. Runs the works through barely lubed spur cut gears. Sounds a lot like a gigantic papershredder.

On the side? All you hear is the long, continious rip of slugs going downrange. Nothing else comes close. There's louder stuff, but nothing else has the sustain of noise like the GAU2.

Except for it's bigger brothers. I won't go into what a GAU8 sounds like.

Yeah saw a CIWS test a few years back. That's something I'll never forget. There where no tracers in the feed though. I would have liked to see those tracers. Without tracers you don't see as much (but I guess tracers aren't that usefull with an automated system so it's kinda logical).

I was out in Tuscon, Arizona awhile back (back when I still had a job writing and reasearching for the meuseums out there) and got to go to a demonstration of some of the weapons that where going on-display. They fired one of the vulcan cannons at an old truck (supposed ot be a technical I guess) and it really fills your pants the first time you stand only 12 feet away from the thing. Even with my earmuffs, all I could hear was this "kssssshhhh" sound like static, and then this roar like a T-rex was screaming bloody murder. Needless to say, the truck just instantly turned into a dust cloud, and when it all cleared, the engine block was torn in half and the entire back half was pretty much gone.

I know at least three civvies who own real GAU2's. Although I've seen the airsoft version at the last SAR show.

    Neat toy.

The music was unforgivably tasteless. Footage was fairly impressive. I don't think I've ever seen battlefield footage that clear.

    [edit]

Is it just me, or was some of that shot off the back of a Saracen?

Actually, the classical music (Carl Orff, Carmina Burana) is one of the great classical works ... just taken COMPLETELY out of context. ;)

And it's always used. Carmina Burana is probably the most criminaly reused piece of classical music out there, and it's almost always tasteless.

Haha, yeah, well they have a big problem when They ask you to write a 1200-word description for a display case of StG-44s, and you spent the whole time they give you to finish it getting drunk and losing all your money playing pool, and Email in your project as a .doc that reads "I quit" they tend to let you go.

Well, it would have been interesting to Beethovens' Fur Elise 1.

During a nighttime PACFIRE, I was standing P/T and saw what had to be a two or three foot long flame shooting out of our aftmost CIWS mount, just below the flight deck. It looked like a jet engine on full afterburner. I didn't have any ear protection on except for the sound-powered phone headset and was only about four feet from the mount when it started... the sound and vibration seriously rattled my teeth. The ones in back. It was like a metal zipper except 20 times as fast and 1000 times as loud. And afterword I couldn't hear a damned thing except ringing.
