June UDK Update Released

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

The June 2011 build of UDK has been released and it's packing quite a few new toys.

As you can see by the lovely landscape pic posted to the right, a new foliage editor is available to expand upon the available foliage painting options. Also built in are customizable map templates, complete with a slick interface. The Simplygon static mesh reduction tool makes it easy to do smart mesh simplification without ever leaving Ued. There's also a Kismet debugger and profiling, performance, and memory improvements as well as mobile workflow and lighting upgrades. Almost forgot... Unreal Landscape now has support for decals, making it possible to add dynamic effects such as tire tracks or footsteps to surfaces.

I guess the new foliage editor answers everyone's "why is realistic foliage part of the future of the engine?" questions after the last Unreal Engine 3 trailer. Cool changes. I especially like to see that kismet debugging is getting attention.
