About a year and a half ago, i was looking at the textures ingame, and mainly the grass, rocks and soil that can be found outdoors. Most of those textures are superemposed on the surface to make it look real. All those textures are added in the size 256 x 256 pixels, which means that the S3TC counterparts are 2028 x 2048 pixels.

And i thought to myself, most of those maps do not use that many different textures, which means the drag on the videocard is low. So what now if i add those textures in the size of 4096 x 4096 pixels. This means that the detail is 400% of the High End version. And there it is, the Extreme End packages were born :)

Following that idea i started working on the textures asuming they will be Extreme End rather than High End. Last year i already was working in the DecayedS package, and i was redoing the package from scratch. So with that in mind i started to create all the texture Extreme End.

Now with the release of the updated DecayedS package, i also present the first Extreme End package. And its big alright, its a staggering 887 Mb big utx file, and sure must be the largest texture package worldwide by far :D

Yes you read that well :) 887 Mb

Offically i will not support these type of packages for follow reason, i am running out of drivespace real badly(at home), and hosting is a serious problem. UnrealTexture being a big and large site, hosting these packages is far beyond what the site can handle.

This does mean that i uploaded the file to RapidShare for the moment till i find a good solution for the hosting.

In a few i will give the downloadlink but if you decide to download keep this in mind:

ITS A HUGE DRAIN ON YOU VIDEOCARD !!!!

Which means you need a friggen good computer and videocard to run it...........

- All textures originally added to the game in the size 32, 64, 128 pixels have been added in the size 2048 x 2048 pixels.
- All textures originally added to the game in the size 256, 512, 1024 pixels have been added in the size 4096 x 4096 pixels.

So its big alright :)

Here is the download in case you want to give it a try, but dont go complain if it lags, and i strongly advise if it does, pleas go back to High End because they also still are super cool to play with(and for that mattter the Low End version).

Before you download: ALSO READ THIS PLEASE

Keep the bandwidth of UnrealTexture in mind, in case you also downloaded the High End version, than please keep that file for safekeeping in case Extreme End wont work for you. If you keep the High End version on a safe place than you dont have to download it twice. Please keep that in mind..................

Here is the FilePlanet download: ExtremeEnd_DecayedS.zip

For the ones that are able to play them, please let me know here how your system handles them, including the specs of your system, so we can find out what you need to run them.

Merry Christmas everyone :)

Here is a workable mirror for the Unreal version on the Celtic Warriors site. For this month there is about 90 gigabyte left on the bandwidth, so that should cover 157 downloads. The speed of the site is horrible fast, and i know people were able to drain 1400kbs+ from it.

ExtremeEnd_Unreal_DecayedS.zip

It also means that after 157 downloads the site will go down, and ill remove the link prior to that happening.

Success :)

Ok, here we go.

This update contains smaller updates in a range of packages, but if you put them all together its a pretty large update. There are also packages that could not be released before, or were withdrawn because of the procedural texture problem, and hopefully that is solved now. For Unreal that aplies to HubEffects.

In this update are also all mountains included, and they are added in various results. Of course the mountains in the SkyBox package, but also the mountains in the ShaneDay and ShaneSky packages. The last 2 needs to be said, i made those real fast, and i am not sure about the ingame quality. But since i dont have a map where they have been used properly i cannot check how they behave ingame....

Overall:
Most updates concern all kinda celestial stuff like planets, nebulas and galaxies that have been redone. And while i have a good source by the Hubble organisation for super uber high resolution photos, those nebulas are very difficult to create. The main problem is to have them blend to black without having it look artificial. And frankly those textures consumed the bigger part of the time spend. As often the textures that look the most simple, are also difficult to create.

Issues
There could be an issue with the nebulas and galaxies. The stars on the background are added the way Epic added them. But in case i get too many complains, i may update those and add the double amount of stars to them. So feel free to tell if its ok or not.

Advised use
Of course if you have a videocard that enables you to use the Extreme End versions feel free to download them all. But the whole purpose of the Extreme packages are textures that are used in large scale and simply have a need for Extreme End. And while DecayedS was good for testing ground, this update contains 3 package that all users should have in Extreme End rather than High End and those are:
SkyBox.utx
ShaneDay.utx
ShaneSky.utx

Downloads
I simply refer to this page and simply download all packages. Of course you do NOT need to download DecayedS if you already have it :)

Unreal Extreme End

Well :) , enjoy :)

BTW.. would it be possible to replace the audio found in UT with that of the WAV files from the UT Soundtrack?

Doug8796,

Replacing .UMX files with .WAV files doesn't seem possible to me, and have it work in-game. I don't know how the game would recognize the .WAV files. Maybe there's a way to translate the format, but that move is beyond my ken.

There is a way, but it's incredibly suboptimal. UMX files are basically ImpulseTracker files. They are not like WAVs at all - they are more like MIDI, that is, you have a set of music samples and you arrange them. WAV files contain only one huge sample that you can't deconstruct. So the only way to make WAV files work as music would be to set it as the only sample in the tracker. But it bloats the file size to incredible levels or makes it sound really poorly.
And finally, in Unreal Engine 1, music packages are considered nearly equal to other packages, like textures. That means that you can't change it and expect it to work - you will most likely get version mismatch errors.

Hi,

Yeah, at the bottom of each mainpage is a PayPal donation button if you want to use that. I just got back online, after a reinstall due to a virus that i couldnt remove otherwise. And right now i am running Windows 7 instead of stupid Vista. Looks ok, except the search function is broke just like in Vista, and theres no Outlook. Means i do not have access to any of my mail accounts, nor to my email adresses i have from people.

Enough with that, i hope i will be able to produce alot more Extreme packages in the hopefully near future. And it only hangs on my health... Because aside that i desperatelly want to go back to work on the textures and release tons of them.

Its off topic but i guess version mismatches could be bypassed when its done through a mod that picks an alternate file to play. That way it could never cause problems, but i agree, if you alter the files itself, you wont be able to join servers anymore. With a mod you could.

And in case you are gonna ask that, no, i have no clue how make mods, so you gotta make a formal request to others on these forums(or try it yourself :) )
