Not as retarded as it seems!
Discovered it today, playing with a few friends on LAN. If you have a relatively small number of players, and a tweaked instagib mutator (1) Works in Wafare, 2) Half the damage, 3) Alt-Fire very quickly heals and builds nodes 4) Removes hoverboard, 5) Optional: Orb can be carried in vehicles 6) Optional: players are invisible, 7) Optional: Allow the Redeemer), as well as a vehicle replacement mutator which replaces now redundant vehicles with more useful ones (keep the Leviathan, Cicada, Nemesis and Viper, replace the rest with suitable equivalents) things are quite interesting.
Approximately, a power node can survive four hits from the half-damage instagib rifle, and a core can survive ten. This means that they will be quickly destroyed if the enemy has line of sight - but can also be quickly healed if a friendly does (not the core). In order to construct a node, you still have to touch it - and the Orb can be quite handy for protecting a node, rather than building it. Vehicles, with their new found massive vulnerability are more utilities than 'super-weapons'; the Nemesis and spider mines are really handy for keeping enemies out of line of sight, and it's invisibility keeps it from being one-shot-killed as soon as an enemy spots it. It becomes a tool of territory occupation and makes a good replacement for the heavier vehicles (Hellbender, Goliath, Nemesis, Dark Walker). Without the hoverboard, the Viper now takes on the role of acting as a player transport, to rapidly travel from node to node - but can also be one-shot-killed, so it's a very high risk. The Viper naturally replaces the Scorpion and Manta as a fast vehicle. Finally, the Cicada (maybe a weapon-power tweaked version would work better, since at present it doesn't do much damage) can hit a node without having to see it - and can therefore hit a defended target and keep out of enemy line of sight. It naturally replaces the now moot Raptor and Fury.
It's worth a whizz if you've got a few friends to play with. Obviously some maps work better than others, and maps with balanced vehicle spreads, as well as sheltered power nodes / cores are more desirable. Obviously, it's not for everyone, but we did enjoy just how much more territory-orientated and less vehicle dominated the game became as a result![Smile :) :)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
