INF for UT2K7?

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

Yeah, since this whole Half-Life 2 thing didn't work out, I think the obvious choice for game engine is UT2K7. It looks like it will support giagantic maps, and the polygons and shadows have been upped significantly... Like I said, it seems like the obvious choice here. Not to mention the playermodels are vastly more detailed than even UT2k4.

Anyway, has Sentry looked into this? and if so, when will you be making an announcement of some kind?

I suggested a while back that they push forward with a new engine instead of sitting back and wait. Basically the idea is to work now on a mod for an engine that will be release in 1 or 2 years.

They key would be to get support from the producer/game maker (for example from epic) before the game is even released. Maybe get a feet early in the game developement to have access to beta version of the engine, sdk, etc. Not easy to do, but worth trying IMO. Doesn't cost anything to ask ;)

So basically do the mod now so that when the game is released, you'll have only the last details and bugs to iron out.

Ambitious? yes. But ambition is not what's lacking in sentry studios.

I think UT2007 would be a good choice for this path, that for a lot of reasons.

Indeed, after all, even on UT99, INF is an excellent mod that has managed to make full use of capacities of an *old* engine, no? so imagine the possibilities on a *new* engine which is an evolution of that *old* one!

We'll just have to see how things go. Like Crowze said, it's certainly worth looking into. Word is that it will be even more moddable than UT99 was/is so we'll keep our fingers and toes crossed. However, we won't know for sure until it's actually released and lot of things can happen before that happens.

Is it possible to get epic involved? I know the team had talked with the developer back when the GOTY edition of UT came out. It should be possible to get information like poly counts on actors, objects etc., how the textures will be formated, how the animation will be done, what tools will be supported i.e. maya, etc. Get on the Beta test list. These games are beta tested. It is possible that you may be able to put some input in before the game goes gold. It might be possible to tweak some of the work done for 2004 to work on 2007. Hit epic up. Show them how good INF looks on the ut99 platform. Let them know that this mod will only add value to 2007.

Exactly! I think Sentry should get ahold of Epic and see what can happen. If a version of Infiltration for UT2K7 got the exposure of being bundled with a Game of the Year edition or something, we'd get a big boost of new players.

You almost got it almost, almost.

Ermm, I mean look at the UT2007 vids, the game is basicly sort of finished. And as an oldshool mod-team the S-Studios have a slight chance to get a bit support from epic.
Look at HL2, some established mods got support and tools before the game and SDK was released, they started modding allready before the game hit the market.
Sure INF isn't so popular like those HL2 mods, but Epic knows about INF (due to all this GOTY edition story), so it's not like the S-Studios are some freaks that want something without any qualifications.

IMHO, should Sentry follow this route, I would suggest they begin work on player models and weapons, their corresponding skins and animations, and present them to Epic. This and a sincere request to Epic for some special Mod support for such a long running Mod and Mod team, should surely get their attention.

I see a bright future for SS and INF should they Mod with UT2007, however, as I mentioned earlier, the earliest conceivable release date for a public Beta could easily be 1 to 2 years AFTER the release. If UT2007 is released in 2007 (no one knows the EXACT release date, we are hoping for late 2006, but who knows?), of course this could mean 2009, and if there are problems, even later.
I believe that in order to facilitate a slightly faster release date and work load schedule, the team should start now, and quite possibly reap the most benefits from modding and releasing earlier than expected (of course, a playable stable Beta) for UT2007.

Well, optimally... they would have all the textures and model work done by the time the game ships, and would only need to do coding or whatever. UT2k7 isn't going to be out for some time now, so I think they have time to get everything done. They just have to get ahold of Epic and see.
