INF better than CS but...........

Here's the problem i'm having. While online I get these massive ping spikes, my ping jumps from its normal 80 to 100 range to about 1500 to 2000. Needless to say it makes the game impossible to play.(Bots are fun but people are MUCH more exciting!) anyway while this massive ping thing is happening I jump out of the game and go play CS for a while as a test and as usual my ping is rock steady in the 40 to 70 range. I only have this ping problem in INF and its on several different servers. Is there some sorta tweak im missing or something? Oh when this ping sky-rocketing is going on everyone else's is steady. Please tell there's some sorta fix for this I really cant enjoy CS now that I've sampled a superior game. I connect using 640k DSL. Thanks.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm...... i've never really played regular UT. I bought it for my son, found out about INF and took it back from him! Actually we share, he only wants to play INF now so there are a few battles in front of the computer befofe we can actually battle it out in INF. I'll give it a shot and see how it runs it's not my type of game but it could help me sort out this problem. Thanks

Network Team Games and Ping

If I am off base with any of this I'm sure I will be flamed, and TK'ed at least once or twice.

INF's lag seems to be linked to the person on the team with the worst ping. I have noticed tremendous lag when I am showing pings of 80 or so - but one other teamate has a ping of 400. If I am on a team and everyone has ping rates below 175 however the game will rock (especially if the other team has a few 400 pingers ;) ) I think it has to due with the need to keep track of all the other players locations 'cause when you die you can look through any view. Maybe if they disabled this switching through "team-mate" view and just use normal ghost view the ping rate would have less impact, (Chances are not likely as this would be an engine hack rather than a mod hack <DANGIT!>)

I posted this problem on the General forum and it was suggested that I switch my connection speed in UT and INF from DSL to 28k and it seems to have made a difference! Hope it's not just a coincidence.:D

I had exactly this problem a month ago.

I bought a cable modem, but got the cheap connection with bandwidth limited to 64k down & 32k up. Giving pings between 30-80 on UK servers.

This was great for a while. But then it went mental, and i was getting random ping spikes in game upto 5000. And it was getting worse the more i played. (This is in INF)

I tried playing Q3 (just as a test) and my pings were solid at o higher than 40 for UK servers.

I tried normal UT (instagib), and altho a little laggy was great and more than playable unlike INF.

I tried every netspeed setting, every forum, every newsgroup i could think off, and no one could help solve the problem. I reformatted my HD and tried all sorts of software and hardware solutions. Again nothing worked.

As a LAST resort, I therefore asked my ISP to put me on the 512k service as a trial, and problem solved. Best thing is im still on trial and getting a 512k Cable modem connection for £10 a month.

The strange thing is, is that i only had problems with INF. Nothing else.
