Ooo... A new EAS map! I am guessing by the name and the look of the map you are trying to recreate the feel of Black Hawk Down. Some good elements in this beta but it feels like it has a lot of room for tweaking.

Comments: Linear flow! Once you've played it 12 times, you've played it forever. Things don't really change when all you can do is move from A to B. You have some rooftop areas, some open rooms, some alleys. These elements add a lot to the map, it's a shame there's so few of each and all the alleys lead to the same open area.

Lack of randomness means people will learn the timings rather quickly. They'll know exactly when to expect contacts, when to fire their M203s, how long it takes to run to the extraction, etc. You could break EAS-INF-Mostar's record of 4 random points and try to go for something like 8.

Clean streets! Where's the cover? Where's the concealment? It's an open, empty blood fest waiting to happen. Google any photo of Mogadishu and you'll see it's a mess. Cars everywhere, carts, ugly cardboard boxes, people. Of course, you can't have any people, but all the other elements are available in the INF deco resources or as textured brushes. For extra fun you could try using that random trash actor that Freon made.

Strange extraction point... Why do the attackers extract at a lone, uncovered humvee in the middle of nowhere, under the control of the Defenders? Probably better to copy the movie and have them extract to a barricade controlled by US forces. Any defenders approaching it will be shot!

Edit: Those helicopters? Good idea but they can't aim at all, not enough to be a nuisance. I stood around and WANTED them to shoot me but they missed by miles. If you slowed them down a bit and increased the gunner's accuracy, they could be a proper threat.

Screenshot from the movie instead of the map? Using screencaps instead of a nice photo of your map just doesn't feel right. It's like saying "don't look at my map, look at this dying soldier instead!"

Anyways, it's a really nice looking map with good Z-axis action and scaling. I only wish it was 3 times larger with multiple paths and objectives in order to properly recreate the movie's feel of being lost in a city that hates you. :)

Would you be willing to host another session on your server, for the Euros? :)

Thanks for your comments, much appreciated. :)

    1) I can certainly add more accessible rooftops and interiors, if that's what the players want. So speak up, people!

    2) Still trying to figure out how it was done in Mostar.

    3) This is a pre-beta. Street clutter comes later, after all the buildings are done.

    4) I want to have the ending camera show the humvees drive away. Still thinking about that one.

    5) I can tweak the helicopters some more, easy. I didn't want players to get pissed off by being shot all the time. But if that's what the players want, I can do that! :D

    6) Temp screenshot. See #3

    7) *smeerkat chokes on his soy milk beverage....

    1) Well, it's what I want. But I'm different...

    2) It uses a complex chain of random triggers that turn on/off different spawn points and objective points. You'll have to have a solid grasp on UT Triggers to understand it. Or just follow the chain in Mostar until you get it.

    3) Oh, cool. Let me add that the buildings are all floating 4-5 feet in the air. I think the civilians will require some stairs into their homes, unless they like jumping 4 feet just to reach their front door :)

    4) That would be a nice ending. It's done in tons of other INF maps. Look at EAS-INF-RoadtoKandahar. It has that very ending. You can look at how it was done if you don't know how.

    5) Well, I wouldn't want players to be upset too, but those helicopters serve no combat purpose right now with their aim that bad. Some other suggestions would be to have them higher, but not firing, like a recon patrol. Or to have them summonable by a commander at the Attacker's spawn tent (see EAS-INF-Iraq). That way you can call in gunship support once every 5 minutes, but it would be serious support that would make Defenders dive for cover.

    6) Roger!

    7) Mwa ha ha ha! Yes, I saw how much work you put into placing each building where it is without duplicating too much. The map size/flow is fine as it is now if you're aiming for a small 5 minute match. If you want epic, it's gotta be much bigger and less predictable. Nothing wrong with small maps though. I just find large maps more fun to play since you can go around from many different points. Attackers can plan their attack and not be forced to rush out before defenders choke them in. Defenders can find a good defending spot before attackers rush into the objective room. INF doesn't have to be played as a game where people have to start running as soon as the round begins :)

    8) Soy milk? Gah...

Are you dissing soy milk? All bets are off!

    ;)

The only buildings really high up, are the Defender spawns. Originally, I was going to make that area fully accessible then I changed my mind. If I keep them fenced in, I can lower the buildings.

Uni7 makes a good point. Everytime I tried to get back into INF it was always a game of memory where people just knew where you we're going to be before you did. Everyone was running like hell and seemed more like a marathon. I just got frustrated and stopped playing after a week until now. But the servers are all bare :(

I really wish the game had come this far when I tried to get back into online play.

Hmm finally no, (Riviera is dtas and it wont really help to test an EAS map)

But, i can make another server with EAS rules with your map for few hours, like 8pm to 4am CET, this evening.
I could add more EAS maps...Euros, just ask.

hmm... you're the first person to report an error. My beta testers have the plain vanilla 2.9 install (+ 2.9 bonus pack and TBT Desert Storm mappack). If it were a missing package, it would say "Missing Package: [name here]".

Does anybody know what to do?
