Don't know if anyone's noticed this, but I think it's impossible to shoot through the game sprites in Inf. (Yeah..sprites, remember those..?) Ie, you can't shoot through the "chain link fence" sprites on certain levels, or the metal grating sprites sometimes used for walkways...
For example, let's say I'm playing a practice session,(Since I am the god of ping, I can't really play inf online. /infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif ) against one of my bots (who we'll call Captain Prissypants) in DM-Sniper Alley. The game begins as normal, with me searching frantically for a weapon whilst Prissypants comes after me with his fully loaded mp5. Once I've respawned, I manage to find a weapon, and begin to hunt down my botlike foe. I manage to find him, running down to the street level spawn point that's down what looks like a basement access stairway. I jump down from the rooftops (miraculously unharmed thanks to the unaltered UT falling damage /infopop/emoticons\icon_wink.gif ) and close in for the kill. Sure enough, Prissypants reappears, climbing up the staircase with nothing between himself and M16-instigated doom but a small (insert ominous music) CHAIN LINK FENCE. Having squared my unfortunate enemy within my sights, I squeeze mouse1..umm..I mean, the trigger. *TAK-TAK-TAK*
nothing happens.
realizing he's under attack, Prissypants thinks-
*InitString:Kill_Player* turns and unleashes a stuttering burts with his mp5. I prepare to "Hit fire button to respawn" but suddenly realize that I'm unharmed. I fire again, but the bullets simply splatter against the chain link fence. M16 rounds which, in game, can easily penetrate most thin walls, cannot seem to be able to make it through a chain link fence that is 60% air. As I ponder the implications of it all, Captain Prissypants deftly manuevers _around_ the fence and sends a large hunk of lead through my brain at supersonic speeds.
THE END.
Anyway, the gist of the thing is this; while you can shoot through walls in INF, for some reason it's impossible to fire through sprites. Possibly this was overlooked. I just though I'd bring it up beacuse I didn't see a planned fix for it in the Roadmap.
Sorry about the impormptu Short Fiction Masterpiece, but it's been a looong time since i've written anything... /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
From now on I'll try to keep it confined to the off-topic section...
Anyway, has anyone else noticed this problem? Hope for some feedback.
Later,
Ak
