Hi all,

I just wanted to post a little more data to let you know where we are on this and because of one of the options we have finalized that will require some preparation for some of you.

The League has tentatively set a goal to Launch in October, 2004.

We have also decided to allow an excellent suggestion by KeihasWarrior which is to allow each team to select 5 Camos that their "Army" can choose from for each match. There will be no default camos for the maps. Each team is responsible for making their own selection.

The part that is really cool and that will require a little advanced work if teams want to do it, is that we will allow custom Camos. A team can either take an existing Camo and add arm patches, etc. or can create a totally new Camo from scratch. Camos created by teams for teams will be reserved for that teams use only.

One may ask what happens if two teams choose the same camos. While we have not finalized that piece, we are leaning towards allowing it. It would be very similar to situations in the real world where communication plays a big role in Friend or Foe identification and we beleive Clans are capable of dealing with this. Also, UTCompass will be part of the standard config, which will help.

So, if you want custom camos, start work now. Camo additions will note be allowed after the League starts as we plan to provide a Server Package to the Server Admins with previously configured INI files, etc. and that package will not change after the League starts.

As always we welcome input in our forums at: http://forums.clanterritory.com/forumdisplay.php?f=127

Thanks,

Shan

That sounds awesome Shan. One small thing: 5 custom camos might be a bit much when you multiply it by the number of countries (not sure how many countries there will be tho). You might want to make it a smaller number like 3. I am not sure how you plan the process of making camos official, but there should probably be an approval process for the camos, after which they are added to some sort of IGL camopack.

-- This league is starting to sound awesome!

Actually, we are not requiring that any of the camos be custom. We will allow each team to select up to a total of 5 camos, period. It does not matter if they are custom or not. Some teams may only select 3 or 4 but the important thing is their selections are set for the season so, forget to select an arctic camo, you may be playing in an acrtic map in Desert digs. :)

The number 5 comes from the assumption that each team will want to select camos of these varieties:

  • Urban Day
  • Urban Night
  • Woodland
  • Arctic
  • Desert

Each team will be able to select from all of the default Infiltration Camos, any publically released approved Camos and any approved custom camos.

Some teams may make 5 custom camos and I expect that some teams will make none. This is also a good way to get custom camos distributed for those teams that have always wanted their patch on their arm, etc.

Note that all approved camos will be run on the SG Servers public servers as well, unless authors request otherwise.

As far as approval, the plan is for the Server Configuration Committee to approve maps, server configuration settings, mutators and camos.

Sweet. I gotta go get started on some custom camos for PR.... :D

Oh, and if you decide to run actshun, I have the perfect camo for that: StormTrooper uniforms. I think it would be pretty cool to have lasers, stormtrooper uniforms, and maybe even run some of the starwars maps that have been made for INF.

I think that there should be a couple of maps on some territories, depending on
where the territory is attacked from. Mostly only important when the territory
has vastly differant borders, such as a coast and a desert.

Overall, this looks to be a fair bit of fun:)

Where can I read up on the rules?

Allthough I have neither the skills nor time to participate, this sounds like the best idea since sliced bread. Please post territory status maps here, so spectators can dig out some popcorn and wave banners.

On a slight note, the rules writeup is somewhat difficult to get a hold of. I think you would do all participants a favour by making a game overview, preferably as *pdf.

The idea is, that occasional players could take part as mercenaries. Of course you need little practice to make your way on a teams hiring list.

Definetely true, but rules are still floating and the rating system wouldn't work too well on a single pdf

When the league goes live, you will be able to go to the site and monitor progress. If I can get it working. I would like to be able to run a lil flash presentation that does a slideshow of army movements, etc.

Like Nuke said, however, anyone can be a merc. The standard teamsize will be at least 8 players, maybe 10. We want to encourage alliances between clans and merc use.

And more than anything else, this league will encourage fun for everyone. Even if you cannot dedicate time to a clan, you can link up with one for a single match, train with them and get to see how much fun clan play is.

Like Nuke said, the rules are in the format they are now because the league is under development. When finalized, most rules will be removed as they are more application rules than game rules and a simple rulebook or player handbook will be created in HTML or PDF. When it is all said and done, you mom will be able to understand how the game is played...I promise. :)

It should rock!

I read in the rules that the league president (Might I assume you?) Has the right to
change the rules at any time. Might I suggest that for such a change to take place, it
must also have a supermajority vote in the governing board? I don't like the idea of
rules being able to be easily changed mid-season. As for rules about the governing
abilities of the league offices, I would like to see a unanimous vote required to change
those. It might take longer to effect a change, but the league won't be in a constant
state of flux, either.

That is more of less in there for the development part. When the league goes final, I do not plan for the League President to have any authority other than veto power...and that is only there to make sure no one can make a rule change that affects the tools without me being able to make sure the tools can work with it or be changed easily to adapt to it.

We all know that absolute power corrupts and I would not want to stop being my well-loved nice guy self. ;)

Most amusing consequence of picking your own camos: Two teams may have to fight each other with the same camo.

I remember a game, once, a long time ago, where that happened. Most intense infiltration match I ever played...I'm dead serious about that. :)

Ya, I actually think that is a good thing. Will create some really intense maps and you will have to communicate well or you will TK your whole team. That is why I am against keeping it from happening. If it can happen in real life, then is should be able to happen here. :)
