Idea for new DTAS

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

Since many people seem to have a problem with the 15m radius of the flag capture in DTAS, perhaps we need a new system? I have two ideas:
1) Random EAS style:
Attackers/Defenders spawn at random points on the map. A flag is spawned at the attacker's spawn. A defender is randomly chosen to "place the cd". After 10 seconds, the cd is dropped from this defender's feet. The attackers must grab this CD and bring it back to the attacker's flag. The CD can be grabbed in a full sprint.
2) CAPTURE the flag: DTAS is set up nearly the exact way as current, but two attackers must hold their 'use' key on the flag for 5 seconds to 'capture' it. This might not be as good, since attackers would generally kill all the defenders before bothering with the flag.

This of course raises the issue of unfair flag/cd placement, so perhaps a new method of this could be developed too.
I have nothing wrong with the current system of DTAS, other than its getting old seeing people reconnect every 5 seconds to be the placer, and people hiding behind 2 rooms because they're within 15m of the flag.

Maybe make a mutator for the team to vote a permanent placer who they trust?
Or constantly have the placer rotate trhough the list of people ?

I only reconnect when the placer has made it clear he doesn't give a **** about placing the flag. As I DO give a ****, then I don't mind being the placer and, hence, reconnect :p. What I am not going to do is start a "reconnect war", unlike some people who will remain unnamed ;). If anyone else wants to place, it's ok to me as long as he/she at least tries to place it in a good place. And yes, I know there are as many definitions of "good" placement as people :D.

As for the use key idea, sorry but it won't work. As an example, who hasn't spawned at least once in the chopper at vietnam? ;).

I like 1) but not 2).

Regular DTAS could be improved with a more EAS-style capture with a countdown timer, as well as a system for voting for the flag placer. Maybe someone could code a mutator and use it for both DTAS and specialist?

Voting systems can be a pain in the ass, especially if people use non-ASCII names. To get around this I'd have to use a system similar to SpeechPad, which you'd need special keybinds for, and would be a real pain to write. I played around with a randomly selected flag spawner, but Cleeus told me it didn't work, when I thought it did, so we removed it.

As for the EAS-style, well, why don't you just play EAS? Admittedly a round-based EAS could be interesting, but that would be unreleated to DTAS.

Well, voting systems can be easy when people know how to use wildcards. Tehb00b1es is the same person as Teh*s.

I do enjoy EAS, but i prefer DTAS because its new path, new considerations, new plans, new tactics each round. If we could have EAS like this, it would be a dream! Unfortunately, EAS is more story/linear driven (which is what made it so fun the first few times), making EAS maps designed for nothing other than EAS.

Leave Dtas as it is. Design a new gamemode.
If dtas keeps changing, evolving, stuff added etc then in the end it'll be a different game anyway.
