I really dont know where to put this - (UMAX Astraslim AS6000 problems solved)

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

I recently bought a scanner off a mate, but he'd lost the driver CD.
Fair enough, I could just download them. Er, nope. These drivers are NOWHERE to be seen. There's a load of people with AS6000 scanners that wont work.

However, with a few hours to spare and no life to live, I have kinda solved this problem.

If you have an Astraslim scanner and are as fscked off as everyone else about the lack of support from UMAX, follow these instructions:

http://www.scanner-drivers.com/drivers/82/82707.htm

Download that driver set. It doesn't contain the AS6000 drivers and the setup.dll file is missing... HOWEVER, unzip/rar to a directory, and then get windows (im using XP) to search the root dir you've just unpacked and voila, it read's it in as a different scanner but it does indeed work. Then you can use the AstraSlim.exe from the zip to scan your files in.

As I said, I didn't quite know where to put this, but I figure as long as it's online somewhere, it'll eventually come to the attention of those needing it.

So if you know of anyone with this scanner and they are missing drivers (like half the other Astraslim owners) then just tell em about this thread and they should be set.

Oh and before any BuFer's point it out, I know there are AS6000 drivers listed on google, but downloading them is pointless. Half are less than a meg and don't install anything. The only one that's nearly the right size won't download.
