...why this TDM fever and all this "quest for glory".

Infiltration is a teamgame, its all made to be played slowly, tactical and teamplayed.
TDM goes against it all and, oh yeah, "camper" is the favorite word nowadays.

BTW, why it is called teamdeath match if 99% plays only for the own ego? why don't you create a last man standing for your "personal glory ride"? Then at the end of the round you can yell "Got my 49".

Now I can see what I think its a ammo counter mutator, the same we have in Counter Strike, this scares me a lot lol.

There is less and less players playing EAS and less playes playing DTAS. Is everyone
bored? Tired of all thouse game types? Can some explain what is going on?

I really miss thouse weekends with no space left on TDAS servers :( .

One of the main reasons why INF isn't yet on my new gaming rig is exactly this. I'm totally bored of the ol' INF TDM. If I wan't to shoot things up, I play Quake 3 or UT 2004. But since 90% of the time I wan't to play EAS, everyone is on the TDM servers, I slowly moved on. I can't just connect to GD or AFA and wait for 90 minutes for 1 person to join... perhaps 2 if i'm lucky.

Now I planed to reinstall INF on my new rig tomorrow and, frankly, your rant isn't encouraging to me.

I can understand that the static layout of the maps can bore some of you to death after less then 6 months *sigh*, but that wouldn't explain the lack of interest into DTAS.

Agreed.

Personally, I wish Shan would take the TDM server down for a week to see if people would flock back to EAS. Most times when I go on and ask people to go to GD for some EAS, all I hear is "EAS is gei". DTAS is hardly ever full either. But to be honest, I prefer EAS over all modes. I guess it's not nice to force people into EAS, but I just wish INF 2.9 excluded the TDM game all together. I spot maybe 2 full EAS games per week. 99% of the time when I check, there are like 11 people on TDM. Not much we can do except ask those people to play EAS. I imagine if the lot of the DS maps were fixed and a slew of new weapons/maps came out, we'd see more people on EAS. Maybe 2 more.

What are you all talking about?! o_O
Am I such a lucky one or wtf is wrong there?
If I want to play DTAS I can do it and if I do the server is nearly full allways.
Are you from North America? The last times I played was around 24.00 CET and I did not have any problems with lack of server, ok EAS is a bit hard to "find" now but DTAS ...

its an easy mechanism:

We don't have alot of players. Now there are some freaks who like TDM (yes, there really are such ppl). These people like their own servers or TDM in general and join at 14:00 AM waiting for others to join.

Now a meek INF player who likes EAS or DTAS wants to play some INF. He starts INF and sees a TDM server which has 1 player on. All others are empty. Now he has a conflict. Either he joins on a DTAS/EAS server and waits for others or he joins the TDM server and shoots some people. Since he wants to play and not to wait he will most likely join the TDM server.

Now another INF player who like EAS or DTAS wants to play some INF. He starts INF and sees a TDM which has 2 players on. All others are empty. ......

After some time the TDM server is full with ppl who don't like TDM :/

The only way to break this cycle is not to join TDM servers even if there are already some ppl on.

Or join and ask them to switch. That worked with 2.86 on TDM servers as well (I often switched to AFA :) ) as it does now. Some people will switch allways.

Actually, the favorite word in TDM games I have played is B.O.R.I.N.G. I like to take it easy, use stealth and wait out an opponent rather than going in head on. I think I got yelled at at least 3 times on the same server yesterday for taking it too easy. Oh how I love getting those "BORING!!" and "ZZZZ" spammed at me when I'm the last person alive. It should be told that I in one round took out 4 opponents that did the "rush in and shoot at everything that moves"-routine. I managed to do this because I took it easy and waited them out instead of rushing in. It won us the round, but people were still bitching at me.

That being said, I don't mind a game of TDM once in a while and I have nothing against those who wants to play TDM. I certainly don't agree with removing servers to prevent people from playing TDM. People should play what they want to play. Trying to force anyone to do something will only turn people away. However, when left with the choice of a game of EAS, DTAS and TDM, TDM will be the last thing I choose. But that's MY preference. Who am I to tell people what to play and what not to play. If people want to play TDM, let them play TDM. The question we should be asking is how to recruit more players to the game itself, not how many servers should be shut down to force people to play what you want them to play.

Shan hosts several servers for people to play on and forums for any clan who wants a place to talk to eachother and others. He is, like I've said before, the perfect host in every way and I know he loves the game. Let's not bite off the hand that feeds us.

Yeah those "zzzz" and "boring" comments are pretty annoying. I have to admit that it gets boring sometimes (also while DTAS on Gatehouse because I see sh*t there and I'd rather die before turning brightness on :D ) for me as well, but I don't post such stuff. Most times it is my fault being dead so they should i bitch the people being alive, because they played better than I did?

I have to agree with Cleeus when he says sometimes TDM servers are full or non TDM players, but in the last month I could not recruit a single TDM player for DTAS or find DTAS playes between the TDMers :(.

I agree with Almost when he says we can't just say you will play EAS/DTAS and shut down the servers, we have to figure out what this people really like. Once some TDM guys got into DTAS game not to play but just to spray and pray. DTAS was very boring that day...

I sort of agree with everything said here. The way i see it is Infiltration is a game that offers more than one gamestyle.
Some like to play tactical and communicate with the team to acomplish a teamgoal. May that be a cap the cd, dtas, other eas missions.
Some just like to run around and shoot as many people as they can.
And then some of the latter who don't mind bringing that mindset to the first.

This community simply needs more people.

Then every gametype would have its own loyal fanclub. And plenty people in there too.
I like eas and all the different things it can do. Some of the eas maps are simply amazing and i don't think i would ever abandon a game going on in that map.
Dtas offers so many good games too and this (+rav2) was the gametype that brought me 'back' to inf so i'll always have a weak spot for it ;)

Anyway, i expect to play a lot of good games with all you fine gentlemen. And it won't be on a tdm server.
My friend Ras, don't worry. You'll have many more fun games yet!

Well, I recently "got back" to online infiltration. Before I had my pause there where no TDM servers, people played EAS and Specialist which I enjoy(ed) thoroughly.
I had a try at TDM and well, it clearly ain't my cup of tea. Not a problem if people wants to play it, I don't mind but one thing that is annoying is that people have started to play EAS and DTAS with the same mentality.
Stating kills ("I got 14") etc, rushing towards the enemy to get a few kills before dying, not communicating (other than "Tango down") etc etc
Those who play this way are new people to me, or new aliases. Thank god for the oldies whom I have met online who still likes to take it slow, coordinated and focus on the team and not their e-penises.
Yesterday I had the misfortune to tk someone on Mostar. I said "sry", got no reply and continued to wait at the bridge for the helo. I communicated the need for someone else to haul their arse to the takeoff point. The helo arrived and next moment I was tked by the same person I had shot by mistake, 2 meters from back, on purpose with the "win" of the map a few secs away. Reason: revenge on my tk.

I'm not upset about it, really, just appelled by the fact this kind of behaviour can happen. If it happened to a newbie, well, I'm pretty sure that would be one newbie less in this community.

But hey, I hope I meet you "old timers" online for some awesome team based action :)

You're not upset if such a ****er kills you in cold blood and destroys the "target" of the whole round?
Wow you must be very patient.
Imho such people should be banned, they just destroy the game for most people.
Sometimes I've pretty bad times, I am killing many own people by mistake, I often considered to just "suicide" to show that it really was an accident, but I didn't do it because that could be even worse for the team.

I am new to INF and I love EAS and DTAS. TDM is fun once in a while but the problem is that all the action takes place in one area... For instance on Kazhakstan, a lot of action takes place in the warehouse. EAS has an obj. which makes for good tactical slow paced fun and DTAS has the flag placed in different locations and is also slower paced than TDM. Well that's my 2 cents

It gets to the point where if i see "camper" or "zzz" or anything like that thats aimed at making the game move quicker I immediately go off the deep end on that person that said it. No ****ing remorse these ****s are not welcome.

Remember the past

remember when we had vanilla INF and TAS?

the regulars among us had learned all the maps, we knew all the spots, and the "challenge" seemed diminished?

then we had some experimentation with Fortitude and finally we got a stable DTAS?

the way I see it, is that EAS is very nice, but its just as "static" as the old TAS. If I join a game, all I have to do is know the name of the map and I know all the objectives, where the approach routes are, which corners are dangerous and which direction the enemy is gonna come from...

what we need is a dynamic EAS, where the CD location isnt known, or maybe a movable case? SOMETHING that would make it more dynamic.

IMHO because alot of the old dogs have already mastered alot of the EAS maps, they are more likely to go to a populated server full of noob rushars than to go to an EAS server and sit waiting for somebody else to show...

Ive seen alot more ppl requesting to move from TDM to DTAS than to EAS, and I think thats the reason why. The thing to remember tho is that we never really perfected DTAS, so blindcaps are still an issue etc. One advantage I think to DTAS other than the dynamic placement is that you only have one life per round. One life makes you much more willing to slow down and use some caution... OMG what am I thinking? lemme caveat that last comment with "rushars are rushars nomatter what the game" :(

I think thats really the issue, theres really 2 groups in the INF community IMHO, one is the "vanilla" INF crowd thats mostly rushars and are TDM types. The other (smaller) group is the old RAv2 crowd thats mainly interested in teamplay and actually accomplishing objectives. Being a member of the second group, I am frequently the target of the "OMG CAMPOR" comments...

Before 2.9 came out the two groups were effectivly seperated by RA, with 2.9 now we have an opportunity to mix with the other group and maybe grow our numbers. I believe that after a while ppl will tire of the childish BS on the TDM servers and come back to the team games...

Perhaps what we need is a "hook" to make the game more interesting? Duke has been working on new weapons, perhaps if we had some of the ra286 features back? I personally think that if he were to bring bleeding into 2.9 it would make the game much more interesting, remember how it changed the game before 2.9? the rushars payed a price for blindly rushing into fire, because even if they did kill the defenders, if they got wounded they could still lose... The danger tho is that it would then re-seperate us from the rest of the INF community, so the hook would have to be cool enough to make it worth it for the TDM crowd to "put up with" having to slow down their rushing...

anyway, thats my thinking on the matter..

That should be possible... it's up to the mappers...

I fully agree... and perhaps we should ask those who gave all that BS to Toad, not to throw competent and good moders out of this community when she badly needs their support. :(

According to one of Beppo's posts it IS possible right now. Someone would have to write a mutator where you can add different CD-, Spawn-, Sniper- and Extractlocations in an ini-file.

Yeah, one *could* write a mutator that changes the EAS maps and moves all objectives, but then again it's a) a lot of work b) respawns are still needed

About the "OMG TEH CAMPER" yells: ignore them ;)

Infiltration simulates reality. Camping is an integral part of real War. => Camping is an integral part of Infiltration.

If you yourself don't like Campers, don't get shot by them and hunt them down :)

I'd also like to spread the word on the INFiltration pages that camping is allowed in INFiltration.

How should a defender defend a specific position without camping?! ... No way, so it is of course a standard and realistic tactic to 'wait' for the enemy to show up. Even a completely random map would allow camping once you know where the objective is placed and where an enemy is moving around (so even if each spawn would use a random location).

To the mutator again. It is easy to write a mutator that adds and subtracts objects to/from a map. The hard thing that needs much work is to 'write' the ini entries for a specific map then. It is as hard as to setup the map design in the first place. And as said already, not all maps allow such things.
Our beta testers worked together with our mappers for month to find the current setups of the official maps that work gameplay-wise and block specific 'unwanted' actions properly. So setting up the sniper actors alone, to protect the spawn areas, needed a lot of time cause the sniper actors were developed after the maps base layouts were already developed. And even if you setup your map with 'no spawn camping possible' or 'no shortcuts possible' or 'no roofing' or whatever... some skilled players will find an exploit. So, this development process for setting up a map properly needs a lot of work to get a result that is enjoyable and doesn't leave one team with an advantage that the other team will probably not have in the 2nd round of the match that occured due to random elements that were not properly set up or tested fully.
