Ashamed to say I've never heard of them apart from suicide machines :(
what do you think of Blink 182 and Sum 41? They are classed as 'punk' and everyone says they are really good, but they are both far too "pop" for me...

well, even though they are the Backstreet Boys of punk, i think they put out the best music. many punk bands can only carry out a tune for one or two tracks per album but these two manage to make albums full of listenable music. there just seems to be something lacking musically in the 'scream a lot, pound the drums, wail on the guitar really fast, anti-government' songs. some bands are better than other for being listenable and holding true to punk- bouncing souls, dropkick murphys, and sometimes Rancid are the best examples. there are also a lot of fringe punk bands that also sound a little too Pop for punk but get classified as punk anyway.

green day paved the way for other bands like blink and sum to sell out. blink is more sell-out because by the time they started to get big it had become okay to do just that and they could push it even more.

but its about the sound. blink 182 is not punk. green day may not be anymore either but they "sound" more punk.

why does going with a major label mean ya sold out, if yer still playing the same music? you only sell out if you go with the labels vision and not your own. green day didnt sell out. they were just original enough to say **** you to people who thought they should fit into their little definitions of what it means to be punk.

LOL at the fact that country stars who crossover to pop get the same treatment from country fans.

green day stuck to its guns as much as blink did. old old green day sounds different from their current music... it was ratty, pre-label punk. now they sound exactly what they are: old ;) grown up songs vs. old skool punk.

blink on the other hand sounded as poppy back when they started as they do now, it's just that as they make more and more $$$ they grow further from the scratchy garage sound and more towards the 'we played the track once and they edited it in the studio for eight months'

country stars really do get that treatment, but look at garth brooks: he just blew away everyone (sales wise) with his new album even though he's country's version of blink ;)

Blink and Sum 41 make good music, but it all sounds the same...i'm no expert but I can never seem to distinguish one from the other or one song from another, whereas I can for most other types of music...
