How can i reduce lag in INF?

Uh huh, my lag's bad around 250-300+, when i click, my gun fires only bout a second later. Maybe its the netcode, maybe its my pc, but i dont seem to encounter such unresponsiveness in other online games (HL, Q3 etc) with such pings. So how can i reduce the lag in INF?

Its Mostly the server - what server your connected to etc..

There is not many INF servers about, due to 2.87 soon

if your ping is 250 + , then it isnt gonna be much good anyways
Play offline and wait for 2.87

Your "lag" in some game might not look the same way.

In some game, whatever your ping is, your bullet will be fired when you click. You still wont hit your ennemy though since by the time your PC communicatre with the server, your opponent will have moved.

While in Inf, the bullet take your "ping time" to be shot. So if you have a 300 ping, btw the time when you shot and you can see it on your screen, there is 0,300 second delay.

Infiltration is a server destroyer. It's really easy to hit 100% cpu usage server side if you have anything less than an UBER box. We at MUF run with a dual 1.4g/hz athlon setup. We also use a raid array to limit map load times.

You don't need quite that much horsepower, but just to show you a comparison: Hosting about 60 or so players on 4 servers pushes us to about %50 cpu utilization. On our old box (athlon 900) over 24 had us at 100%. We have also hosted Ghost Recon and Medal of Honor servers. Medal of Honor is a beauty as far as server resources. MOH can host about 40 on a box with similar specs and never crest 20% cpu usage.

Long story short. UT is bad on server side CPU. Multiply that time 3 and you get what INF does. There are reasons for it and don't expect that to change untill U2. In the meantime shop for better servers to play on or upgrade your pc.
