Hi again

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

sorry I haven't been around....been pretty jammed lately....
Anyhow, reformated/partitioned my hard drive last week, and I'm just now getting around to installing ut2k4. I'm going to build a 64 bit system in a few weeks, so I can go through it again  I should have UW running in a day or 2, I'm installing it to Linux this time. I've all but done away with windows, only gave it 20 gigs this time, so no UT will ever live there again:D

Steven, think you can put all your cars & maps into 1 zip for me? Or do I have to wait for the next release for that?

If your going 64bit... and have a top of the line video card... Windows is the ONLY way to go ;) Don't get me wrong.. I love linux. Just driver support to take full advangate of your equipment still needs to catch up :)

right on, I'll need to reinstall the beta too, I assum the link Shrimp sent me is still valid....I wasn't smart enough to back that up before I repartioned my drives :(

I'll let you know if I need it. I crashed my x-server last night by trying to force the wrong driver.....Had to reinstall my /root/ to get it working again.....
I swear I'll make the burnout this weekend!!!:D

64 bit + windoze =
There must be 10-15 stable 64 bit Linux platforms out there....where is M$ ??? As a Linux user yourself, you already know Linux has all the drivers you need built right in to it (on offical CD's/DVD).
After I install 64 bit Ubuntu, all I need to do is use the "apt-get" command to get what I need (check this out... this is how easy it is to install stuff on Ubuntu)

   Thats a crime!!! A true performance enthusiest uses custom and/or frequently updated drivers ;) nVidia does have great linux support I will say that. But I have always had better performance in games with windows simply because drivers and games are better optimised for it. But then again... im a whore for the best graphics, sound and performance and I get out of my system :D

I agree, but more and more games are adding Linux support.

Yes and no....With Ubuntu I install 3rd party apps with the "apt-get" command. For instance, if I want to get my updates, I don't need to open the update manager, in a terminal, i "su", then type "apt-get update", then "apt-get upgrade". Ubuntu checks 25-30 diffrent repositories (I can add more if I choose to), and finds any/all updates for my system.
Here's how I get my codecs. I would suddest trying to find them at Freshmeat or somewhere like that for a RedHat system.
Or you could order your Ubuntu CD's. They're free, and they ship them to you free.

Hmm .. sounds like the redhat / fedora update system. Its like windows update and you dont even need to know about linux to use it. Also, how different is ubuntu from say fedora? I might give it a try. Keep in mind I only really plan on using it for hosting servers... it must be easy to setup for that kind of stuff :) Im gonna have to check that site out again.
As for game support... its getting there. I believe they just released the linux version of Quake4 ... which uses the doom3 engine which is surely one of the top of the line engines out right now ;)
