Is there a way to use the XMP weapons (and the forcewalls) in UT2K4? UTXMP is awesome, so much so that I've been playing that and not UT2K4 since the release, but every now and again you gotta go with what brought you to the dance. I like the idea of using forcewalls and the grenade launchers (and well, all the other weapons too...) in regular UT2K4. Can this be done?

oh man, i love the way you put that!!

Actually my little mind has been cooking up an idea. I would like it if the FMI guys could have a deathmatch version of xmp... no deploy points or energy sources. just tdm or ffa, with the xmp classes. no weapons or other powerups either.

i guess it remains to be seen. TDM would be easy because of the skins... for FFA someone would have to develop some uncolored ones without it looking boring.

no weapons? they supposed to bitch slap each other to death? :p

i dont like the idea of a DM style XMP. Would just be time wasted developing it. Who would play it past 1 map?? It would have no depth (which is why i love XMP so much i nthe first place)

Team death match should be no problem. The map maker can set energy to max so no hacking is needed (like in RaptorRacing), and set non-hackable deploys for both sides in different spots on the map.

I don't think death match has much use in XMP though, except for improving fighting skills or for some mindless fun. Like AshTrai said, there's no depth to it.

Umm, what's FFA?

Y'know, I know you guys are around here. You don't have to hide or anything.

Actually I can't open the UTXMP.u file in UED because it crashes, so that's kinda why I'm asking here.

No, you can open .U files in UED, and it will show you all the packages etc. Or at least, it's supposed to, like, without screwing up.

Shouldn't just using ucc exportcache UTXMP.u work out? (that is...... if there isn't anything wrong with THAT anyway....)

edit: 'ucc' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

Alright, what am I doing wrong..... I tried this in the main UTXMP folder, and in the system folder with the U file.

N00bs!!

;)

Here's how to decompile scripts:

1.) Open your UT2004 folder in Windows (or your OS)

2.) Open UnrealEd (not XMPed)

3.) Click on the button that looks like a chess pawn at the top. It should open something called the "Actor Browser."

4.) Click file --> open

5.) Select your UTXMP.u file

6.) Hit "Open"

7.) Select any actor in your actor browser and double click on it

9.) A window with a blue background should appear with code in it

10.) Hit File --> "Export All Scripts"

11.) Wait for it to finish its stuff

12.) You still have your UT2004 folder open in explorer, right? Take all the new folders in there and stick it in a new folder called "Reference" or something akin to that.

13.) There should be a folder inside "Reference" or whatever you called it that is called "UTXMP."

14.) Open that folder

15.) Open the classes folder

Therein should reside all the raw .uc files that FMI originally coded, and all the information you'll need to make a mod

No no, I don't want to make a mod, I don't know the first thing about that!

ALl I need are the summon commands to the UTXMP stuff so I can see if it works in UT2K4. And everything I try fails.... it crashes when I oipen the U file in UED (so I couldn't do that anyway), I can't seem to UCC exportcache it, and so I don't klnow what the hell else to do.

Well the .uc files should also tell you that. For instance, if there is something called "forcewall.uc," then you may want to summon it by typing in the console "summon UTXMP.forcewall" or something like that! I don't know if they'll work in 2k4, haven't tried, the reason I said mod is because someone may want to make a mutator for UT2k4 that replaces weapons / vehicles with them or something.

Well if these weapons and stuff don't happen to work in UT2K4, it can't be that hard a job simply making them work. All the stuff is already there, it would be mostly giving them pickup classes I think.

That's why I'm trying to get ahold of the mod makers, but apparently they're all on vacation.

Mod makers only work when they're inspired. Also, it is better to "suggest" the idea to them rather than recruiting them to work for you. Try the ataricommunity forums, under UT2k3/4, under User Maps/Mods, under Beta Releases. Don't worry if you get flamed because of recruiting in a release forum, because that's where most experienced devs recruit anyway.

I don't suppose moviung UTXMP.u to the UT2004 folder would work, would it?
scratchchin.gif

And yes, it is just a suggestion. I think it would be interesting to see. Everything is there already, so why CAN'T this happen?
tongue.gif

Of course, if they CAN be summoned in, then they don't need any work do they

I tried going to the system folder and then having it go:

ucc exportcache c:\ut2004\utxmp\utxmp.u (you need backslashes in a command prompt) and it says "No valid packages found".
