HELP!

Are save games taken with the outa the box version of unreal not compatible with an updated version? I just got the game 2 days ago, and got to the place where you turn off the force field, then I saved till later. Well, yesterday I patched it then loaded it up, and while it will load the save game, once I take 2 steps it will freeze. But if I start a new game, I can play as long as I want without any trouble. For the love of GOD help me! I am addicted to unreal, so I am suffering from MAJOR withdrawl.

As far as I know saved games are lost when you patch. /~unreal/ubb/html/frown.gif
If you are in the mine where the forcefield is you should be able to make it back there in almost no time compared to what lies ahead.

OK then, i'm now done. Another question, if I update from the 226a patch to whatever the next one is, will those savegames be lost also? Or is it just from the original to first patch ? Thanks alot guys!

I haven't patched since 226a, but as I understand it, every time you patch the game, it invalidates your saves. Correct me if I'm wrong on this, Hellscrag /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif

D4mn17! I guess I'll just have to play all the way through before I update... Or just install it twice, once for Singleplayer games, and another that I keep at latest version for multiplayer/bots/mods/editing.

Allow me to field the save game question.

I upgraded from out-of-the-box to 224v. Because Epic had been fixing bugs in the save game code (i.e. the program not remembering what you had when you started the map, so that "Restart <map>" emptied your inventory), the old saves were no longer compatible. However, after 224, the alterations were basically just netcode and rendering.

Although Unreal keeps a table of contents of your saved games which is emptied when you patch, later versions of Unreal will detect when saves not recorded in the table of contents are found in the saves folder.

Bottom line; from 224v upwards, I see no reason why patching should invalidate your saves.

You can find the map that you last saved on in the maps directory (if you know the name)and click on it to start it up. Or on at the console type open "name of the map here".unr
