Hey...

I downloaded the Optimus Prime skin by Michael Frost from SkinCity, but it just doesn't work. As soon as I die I see that I'm just Jakob. None of the other players can see my skin either even though they have the skin installed too. I put the required files in their necessary directories. I've also noticed the profile info doesn't display anything but some random text which looks like a variable than anything else.

Any ideas, anyone had the same issue? I've tried searching google, and tried searching the forum :(

Thanks,

SiE

Have you tried it offline?

It works when I go into "Instant Action", and pressing F4 shows the skin from 3rd person perspective okay, but the single player missions don't work at all when I select the Optimus profile. The levels won't even load. There doesn't appear to be any sounds, they sound like defaults?

Ok, I think that to use a custom mutator of skin online with UT2004 you have to edit a certain .ini file. I can't remember which file it is though and I can't check because I don't have UT2004 on my PC at the moment.

With the single player problem - I had the same happen when I tried using custom skins in that (a Bender skin to be exact) and I'm not sure how to get around that.

And for the sounds, the only possible thing that I know could revert them to defaults is if the sounds pakage is in the wrong directory.

Okay the only place I'm trying to use the skin is LAN games. We play at work during our lunch break for an hour before getting back to reality. I don't host the match, but the skin/model has been installed on all parties computers. So it works in instant action, but not in LAN games. Surely I would only need to edit my .ini file if I was hosting and wanted everyone to download the skin when connecting?

I'm not an expert in this field but I remember having to do this to play over a LAN using custom skins in the past. It was the same with UT1

EDIT: I'm installing UT2004 now to see if I can find out how to get around this problem

Thanks for that... I've added the required lines to my .ini file, hopefully that will work. One of the guys is going to host later on, we'll see if it works :)

okay... I updated the .ini file and tried it. I ran two seperate instances of UT2004 and could see that if I host the game the skin works. If I join a game, the skin doesn't. The same applies when someone else hosts the game and I join. Normally I don't host, as the guy who does has his settings just perfect for some reason. Any ideas on how I can get it work without having to host the game?

The host did make those changes, but for some reason it didn't work! :( I'll just check again and make sure he definitely did make the changes.
