Grozny and Relics - love 'em or leave 'em

Grozny and Relics kick ass - they're beautifully done, intensely realistic and a lot of fun to play. Every time I play one of them online, however, someone with an old graphics card or RAM-deficient computer complains that the map is slowing their machine and asks everybody to vote for an old map instead. And asks. And asks...

I'm sorry, but I'm sick of many of the old maps and welcome the chance to play something both new and amazingly well done. If your system can't handle these maps and you're too cheap to upgrade it, go play MWH on one of the other 30 INF servers and let those of us with decent boxes enjoy ourselves.

Agree Need to see more newer maps on more servers as well. Some of the default maps are nice but well just plain jane maps. If your machine cant run the maps that are on a server there are 30 other servers that have nothing but default maps. Do not spam for another map just ask if there is no reply move to another server. Like it or not online play for the most part is a Democracy unless you happen to be the admin

Whats wrong with relics??? Seems to work fine on my comp and everyone I've played with so far. Gronzy however.... I dont think I've ever played a game with that map in which at least one person had no lag. That map just doesnt run well.

Some people are financially limited and cant upgrade. Personally I think your being a selfish SOB for not caring two sh!ts, but hey, that's just my opinion

Oh yeah, and 22 of the other 30 INF servers that run default maps are empty, and while six of the other 30 INF servers that run default maps have a few players in them, they usually have around 400-500 ping, which leaves the person in question with 2 (if their lucky) servers that have both a decent ping and players in them.

I have a good system and I can't play them well... I wish it would be easier for map designers to make good maps that don't lag for everyone... I've had to take these 2 maps out of our map rotation, because at first everyone was playing them cause they were new... but then everybody would leave cause they lag...

sorry... great maps but they can be useless if people can't play them... and a LOT of people don't have the latest technology...

My system is a circa-1999 P3-733, only newer piece is a $170 Geforce 2 GTS card. It's not a state-of-the-art box by any means but it runs maps like Grozny and Relics just fine. I'm not trying to be a jerk here... what components are slowing these maps down for people?

I really hope that there is a middle ground, that mappers can enhance map realism and gameplay without killing people's systems. INF badly needs new players, and good maps will attract them with an experience no other mod can touch. Maps of empty concrete rooms, or warmed-over CS and TO ports, won't.

My system is very similar... what res are you running INF at?

1024x768x32 is my setting which most normal maps I get 60 fps with OpenGl

I run firkin' Grozny and Relics at software mode 640x480 on a p3-700 and damn proud of it! Down with the old tired (and often crappy) maps! Up the new luvly maps whatever the system cost!

Tell those morons to lower their res and play some nice new maps. If that doesn't work, sign up as a Merc in INFWAR and come play with us

Besides, those who want the older maps are rusher whorez anyway - out for the kill on the map they know by heard and nought else. It's the newer maps that hold that element of surprise for most of us...

That's why I'm at 800x600 instead of 1024x768 like I use in UT. But money doesn't grow on trees y'now?? I only have 500mhz, 128 mgbyts ram and a GeForce 1.. I'm getting upgraded though.. Even so, I still get the highest score on Grozny a lot, it doesn't affect me that much. I haven't had any trouble with Aztec though.

Man it pisses me off that there is SO many maps on RealMaps yet no one plays 90% of them!

Yeah. Down with the old and up with the new. I have been playing INF for a month or so now and have seen maybe 4 new maps put on servers I play on. And that is a big maybe. As far as maps I have never seen or played before, the score would drop to 2. I can't even begin to think how you guys that have been here longer than that feel. I will agree with Shiftless that that is the way to bring in new people. And an even quicker way to have regulars leave.

As far as maps on servers that are hard to play on, I have not encountered many. If you do here is what you do to fix that: hit your tilde key type in "disconnect" and join another server till the next map, or go get a drink, take a break, with all the rushing gameplay the map should be over in about 10 mins or less anyway.

Here's is what not to do: don't whine and cry to the players or server admin so they take it off their server and the rest of us end up playing the same old tired maps. Don't get me wrong I really like most of the maps out there, and would probably love them if I did not have to play them every single time I log on.

Grozny is my favorate map. Well that and ManorFarm. I don't have any problem running maps online. Finding them is another story. But I can normal find a server thats running Grozny. Just tell the laggers. It won't hurt for long. then put them out of their misery. ehehehe
