Let's say I wanted to fill in an area with the color green, but I want one end of the area to start out dark green and then gradually fade to light green across to the other side? How would a brother do this in Paint Shop Pro?

Sounds like you need to use the gradiant tool, fading horizontally with the colors you choose selected as foreground/background. Not sure if you can do that or not in PSP, I've been using photoshop here lately.

The problem with PhotoShop is that the full version is $600+ whereas the full version of Paint Shop Pro is $100+ it doesn't even break $150.

Granted, it's not as powerful as PhotoShop, but my budget doesn't allow me to lay out over 600 for a prog that I can't use to it's fullest, whereas I've been using Paint Shop for years now and you get a lot of value for you dollar.

Wish I could spend the money *sigh*

Just wanted to confirm that Photoshop rules.

Carry on some more.

Oh yeah, use Rhino for your 3d modelling, but not for rendering. It's a crappy renderer. It's the best modelling prog next to autocad tho.

Should I change my sig to "you get what you pay for"?

The best stuff is always expensive...no I can't afford it either, but that doesn't mean I don't get to use it sometimes.

Nah... no need to change your sig and yes I understand the concept of "you get what you pay for". That just doesn't seem to hold a lot of water with me anymore as I'm a Linux Geek.

A large portion of programs that I run are free and better than that which you pay hundreds of dollars for. Now, if I was really good, I would do all my graphics under Linux with Gimp, but I just haven't taken the time to learn fully enough yet /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif

There's a "light" version of Photoshop that sells for $90 or so. It contains many of it's big bro's powerful features. It's probably a better investment than buying the full version for most users. Very few amatures know how to really use Photoshop.

As I'm officially giving a flash worshop now, I'm obliged to say that flash kicks the **** out of fireworks.
'Xept of course that my co-tutor would disagree and he knows a lot more about this **** than I do.

As for rendering, try cinema 4d XL. I'm sure you could pick up a demo version somewhere. It's really fast and has very good raytracing, as far as I can tell. It just needs some work on the sfx like lensflares, glow and stuff, they are post render now and don't reflect.

but its really really fast.

Oh yeah. About paint shop pro.

You MUST be kidding. Any program that puts 'pro' in its name obviously isn't.

And yes I used it.

Mac freak ,you betya.
And I definetly believe in paying more for quality.
My system is about 5000$
and if I was allowed to make more money (student, yeah) I would probably spend that on my machine as well. Just another 1000$, mind you. I'm not that nerdish...
yet.
