    I have Ubuntu 5.04 (Hoary) installed, and no matter what I do, I can't get most of the pre-installed screensavers to work. On a similar note, when I try to start Scorched Earth 3d, I'm told that the computer can't resize the screen or somesuch. My best guess is that there's an OpenGL package missing, but I have virtually all of them installed, and the remaining ones don't look at all like something that would work. The kicker is that those screensavers used to work the last time I installed. And no, I can't remember what I did differently. Anyone?

    linux sux,compared to windows,the hack geeks as well as the dumb home users can use MS for allmost anything,kinda hard to beat.
    And UNIX and MS will be the basis from here on out.

    Clearly your a newb to those OS platforms. Otherwise you would recognize the benifits of them over other platforms.

    I'm guessing your a windows user who does nothing other than download mp3's, play games, and check your email. Yes, windows will do that nicely for you. If you ever want to do professional work, you will learn to use a Mac, or Linux to get the job done.

    Windows is a more than able OS, from my perspective. The only drawbacks that I have noticed are the price and the fact that MS has to patch it regularly. Stability has come a long ways.

    Linux has a much harder learning curve, but gives flexibility for that price. Of course, I'm still learning to take advantage of that, so it's more of a pain than Windows at the moment. However, it is perfectly free.

    MacOS is pretty. Otherwise, it seems to be the same as Windows in terms of being fully fleshed out without too steep of a learning curve. The main drawbacks that I can see are low availability of software (problem with linux too), relatively higher total price, as Apple is extremely controlling of distribution, and actually competes against it's own vendors, and the fact that Mac systems cannot be custom built as per the previous point. I bet that an x86 version of MacOS would make significant inroads into MS's market share.

    MacOS is pretty because its rendered in OpenGL and not in software mode like windows.

    You wont see windows rendered with an api unitl Longhorn.

    I wouldn't bet on an x86 shift for mac. Apple has done the same thing with their Macs as console companies have done with the Xbox/PS/Gamecube. Keep the hardware variety to a minimal and you can contol what your performance will be. This also ensures that the platform will be stable.

    I used Linux for a while and fell in love with xwin... I think that's what it's called. The most stripped down gui I have ever encountered. The only reason I went back to windows was PS :}
