I was thinking about the forcemodel option and it seemed to me that an option to force species would be kinda nifty.

It occurred to me while playing that UT2 mod that came out recently that one of the things about it that nodded in the direction of the original UT was that there weren't any aliens or robots running around... everybody was human. And it was kind of cool, too. An option to force normal human characters would give the game a lot less cartoonish atmosphere, I think.

Conversely, if somebody only wanted to shoot at aliens, robots, or juggernauts or a combination thereof they could do that as well.

I guess you wouldn't want to get too crazy with the options, but I think I'd like to see it.

And oh yeah, gimme a black juggernaut, too. And some asian characters, like an Izinagi team.

And a big slice of Key Lime Pie and an iced tea, please. :)

I completely agree with making the cast of the next UT all-human(ish), if not so much with the force-species-option.

Not really got anything else to add, I too would say that the all-human cast does indeed some more tangible and less cartoony. Adds to the overall cool and comparatively realistic stylings of the original UT.

Do you mean like having a drop box in the settings saying things like "Only see human characters" and stuff for multiplayer. Sounds nice, i mean, i wouldnt use it, but i guess other people dont like variety at all.

Forcemodels currently has to be set up by editing the user.ini (I think... I don't use that feature), but slapping this into the GUI would be fine by me.

Off course
IIRC, UT99 had this option (force humans only). I'd gladly see it return, if it was different from 'regular' forcing a model in UT200x.

Oh, and I certainly agree that the model- and/or species forcing should be included in the GUI. Right now, it's yet another example of the enormous gap between newer players and veterans, because forcing skins is buried among some lines in the ini files.

Yeah, on top of that, i'd like to be able to make certain models player-specific. it is kinda fun to play around as a halo grunt now and then, but i don't want them constantly running through my normal dm games.

Pre- bonus pack, there was one team of not- terribly- robotic robots and Xan, who rumor had it was a guy in a metal suit.

The Skaarj Hybrids were half- human, the Nalis didn't get used much, and the War Cows were actually amusing while Mr. Crow is actually kind of not.

UT99 was a lot more focused on humans than the other games.

But don't fret, it's not particularly bad, neither is it particularly news. :D

Kinda like the way you can force different models in comp, but assigne a species to a team... that would be cool. Especially if there was a particular species that were all equally visible, and it could still assign different models to each player, so you could differenciate between them...

Honestly, right now, more then anything in the world, I want an option to force replace one model when used. I've seriously debated removing all of one race from my folder in hopes to axe one model, but it means I'd see 8 or 9 different models as Jakob, when I really only wanna replace one.

Hopefully, they simply won't have as many "much less then visible" models in 2k7.

Yeah, that would be really cool actually! You could make all your matches Juggs vs Necris or whatever, and it would definitely make target IDs easier for those of us who connect to the server from outer space.

And getting rid of Abbadon and Matix specifically would be awesome as well... there's all kinds of cool forcemodel options you could come up with. :)

I think they need a Chinese and an Indian team, because the Chinese and indians form half of the human population yet there are no Chinese or Indian characters currently in the game (that I know of, correct me if I'm wrong).

And I like the aliens, I just hate the robots that for some reason can feel pain. :D

Indian team

Wow. Now that's one that's been totally overlooked on all fronts. Some bad- mofo turban wearing Ghurka guys would totally rule... not to mention Indian architecture and music for maps (Indian techno music is pretty cool :) ).

Egyptian? Bah... who needs 'em?

I hardly notice the ethnicities in this game really. They are kinda undershadow of the different actual races of being.

It's kinda cool if it goes in with the story line, but despite Tribes games having a serious lack of individuality in appearance, I kinda liked how each server was one team vs another team.

Oh man... Talk about ownage... maybe some cultish group of asians seeking enlightenment through the tournament, that are always incredibly calm and focused... It would be a great contrast to all the angry jugs and gothic necris and whatnot.

EPIC, READIT!

There's both advantages and disadvantages of server side forced models.

One advantage would be that clans could have their own clan skins, complete with clan logos, styles, etc (and dare I say, open the door for sponsorships).

The downfall is that you'll have the llamah admins forcing you to fight against all invisible or all hard to see skins.

Lol, are you kidding me? Indians can get as belligerent as anybody else... the Sikhs are some serious tough guys.

But either way, yeah, Go Subcontinent Go!

Nah, I wouldn't want it serverside... at least not forced. Maybe the server could offer a suggestion, so to speak, that the client could choose not to override... but mostly I was thinking of a clientside thing.
