Geforce question

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

I just got a Guillemot GeForce and it's incredible with some titles (quake 3, Quake 2, SiN etc etc)...but with others such as Unreal, the framerates are barely acceptible. the castle flyby sometimes drops to as low as 10fps at 1024x768. why so low? running directx7, the 3.53 detonator drivers, celeron300@450Mhz and using OpenGL rather than Direct3D. Thoughts?

thanks

Try D3D. Epic has said many times that they recommend D3D if you don't have a 3DFX card, because they have optimized the code. OpenGL is only supposed to be used if nothing else works.

How do you have your textures and resolution set? If you have everything dialed up high, plus running at 1200x800, then you may be CPU limited. Turn off detail textures, HW 3D audio, etc.

I also think I heard that there are new drivers for the GeForce, just released in the last few days.

Running at 1024x768. Even dropping this to 640x480 doesn't help. it still chops up in many places, and is unplayable. Switched to D3D and it still occurs. I've read that staying non-overclocked improves Unreal performance, butI don't want to do that every time I play. Unreal Tournament does the same thing too but is more playable than Unreal is.

what new drivers were you referring to for the GeForce?
