    Aspiring Game Developer? Here’s the break you’ve been looking for:

    Gearbox is looking for the best future game makers! In addition to hiring industry veterans for multiple positions on our triple-A titles at Gearbox ( http://www.gearboxsoftware.com/jobs/ ) we are announcing the Summer 2009 COGS program ( http://www.gearboxsoftware.com/cogs/ ). The COGS program begins June 15th and applications are due by May 22nd. The original deadline was May 20th but we are making a special extension for the BU community.

    COGS (Contractors Of Gearbox Software) is a program for aspiring level designers who have created original levels or game play on their own or for a mod but have not yet worked at an actual game studio to earn a contract to join the studio for a short time and show what they’ve got. This is where you find out if you have what it takes to be a professional. COGS contracts are awarded for up to three months, with special consideration made for students.

    Under the COGS program you will work closely with an experienced industry veteran directly on one of the unreleased Gearbox Software triple-A games. If you complete the program successfully, several opportunities could become available for you including a longer term apprenticeship or a full-time position at the studio as part of one of Gearbox Software’s award winning development teams.

    Many COGS applicants do not complete the program but there are also several success stories of talent that, through the COGS program, became full time professional game developers at Gearbox or at other successful and respected game development studios. Gearbox COGS is your chance to break into the industry!

    Visit the Gearbox Software websites for more information about COGS or opportunities for game industry veterans:

    I noticed on your site that it says;
    But you don't state any kind of qualifications?

    Also, how open are you to international candidates? I'm sure this would be rather pressing; given the need to organise temporary Visas?

    Sorry about the confusion, I think that was meant for some of the questions to the application.

    You must be 18 years or older and willing to relocate to Plano, Texas temporarily.

    It's also important you have some work to show. We don't take candidates who do not have any completed maps to show.

    We take special consideration for international candidates. Your best bet, if you're unsure, give us a shot anyway.
