Most ppl who have shot a gun equipped with a scope would agree, i always aim with my nose just off paralell to gun ( similar to Bow an arrow technique) then peek into scope (with one eye closed), then i usually check my nose position twice(with opposite eye.. If right handed check with left eye). A quick fov 90 hold/release button maybe so the
sniper can see where he is aiming quickly without any fancy zoom script (not knocking it /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif)

Far out im shit with instructions/guidlines.

Snipers ussually aim at targets 600-1000 meters away. If they take their eyes off the target, they lose it. A scope tends to give you a very narrow view of a target (normally not more than several degrees).

Grin/Dlaer, please try to remember that we put a hell of a lot of thought what goes into Infiltration and what doesnt.

We have many contacts ranging from ex-Air Force personnel and Israeli snipers. Though we don't mind suggestions, please try to think of some things that we MAY NOT POSSIBLY have thought of yet remaining within the circle.

The animations are still undergoing a massive overhaul. Rest assured that getting the sniper rifles to scope mode will be utterly realistic when we finish

Out of curiosity, how much distance would you say is between the two forts in 'Facing Worlds' (or whatever the exact name is)? I mean that is one of the maps where you have the most distance between you and your target, and I wanted to know how much 'real' distance you would say is between them.

Thanks, I'm not too good with distance transference and I don't fiddle with the map editor (well not yet anyway). It's interesting to put it into perspective anyway.

wow... I can realy run that fast! remember me to put the player speed to 50% then!

hehe wonder what are the distance in Hall of giants...

woups, getting out off topic here /infopop/emoticons\icon_wink.gif

Just to finish with this, it could be very usefull tha someone comes up with a very simple mutator that enables you to mesure distance it ut... like a range meter, or a simple ruler /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hey geogob, wouldn't an laser range finder be better than an mutator? Shakken, what do you think about a laser range finder? It could nice to measure out how far away your target is. That way you now how long the bullet will take to reach the target. (If you're about 1000M away and going for a headshot, you would have to study where they move their head, since a bullet would take about 1sec to hit them) In that case, knowing your distance would be handy I think.

Thats a pretty neat idea!

I've only used the lasers for aiming and bore sighting, but it shouldn't be too difficult to do some research on sniper rangefinders.

I'll pick this up with Gryphon and Warren ASAP.

Perfect! hehe OICW
When I talked about a "mutator", I meant a mutator that adds a "range meter" (or a range finder, call it what ever...)

You're right... it a good idea and could be fun!

But there still a big problem in UT: the scale... i've done some mesurements in ctf face.

Did you know that the two towers are about 100m apart? and that they are about 22 stories high???? i'm sorry to say that, but when I play it and I stand in the middel of the map, I really don't feel being 50m form 2 70m high towers... I think that it's a problem with the "focal leght" of the camera (or the FOV)...

Now i've found whats bugging me with UT since the beginning! A realistic FOV is somewhere between 55 and 60 I think... but I'll have to to some more mesurements for that.

Oh and to finish, if you want a realistic player speed... put the speed in the INF config to 50%... and you'll run at about 15kph
A doupt that a fully geared spec-ops could run at 30kph

Oh and to finish, the gravity isn't correct! it's about 17m/s^2... that's almost double! but I think that they changed it that way in order to reduce the false impression caused by the wrong FOV...

Is there any official thougts on this question?

Maybe... I could be completle wrong about the FOV... for the rest I'm pretty sure thought.

I plan on doing some more reserch on that. more mesurements and so on... but I'm also quite confident when I say the the scales and persective are quite messed up!

And I'm sure that you can see more than 90° in front of ya... but can you see clearly, with a good focus, much more than 90°??

LOL, a simple question and we now have a discussion to put a laser rangefinder in game, not that I'm arguing with that. Personally I think its a great idea, wish I'd thought of it, heh. Anyway, I'm casting my vote for it here and now, I think it could be a useful tool for the consumate sniper.
