If that's UE3, it has to be incredibly stylized or something, cause it certainly doesn't look anything like UE3....

I'd hope it's UE3, cause everytime I see the name all I can think of is "Frame Killer City"

Maybe someone made the brilliant move of screencapping from a TV and it's the interlaced version of the screenshot.

/me looks again... no... too crisp.
Well, I'm more inclined to think that the E3 shots were doctored or on a different platform. I wouldn't be surprised either way. The thing that bothers me is that UE3's method of normal mapping should be able to completely mask polygonal seams like you can see on those models. They must be really low poly or not making use of normal mapping one bit in order to have that result.

Or maybe those are screenshots from some CG-movie ;)

And please don't start the "It's a GTA-style game" discussion. Mip-mapping is an old technique so there no excuse for unsharp plus MISALIGNED textures. Also when I look at the sky it shows flat clouds, no work has been done on them as well. Actually even mods based on the UE2.5 (UT2004) look 10x times better than this! So my conclusion is vey simple: The dev team has no clue how to make quality games!

So you're saying Namco doesn't know how to make quality games. I'm assuming you're a PC-only gamer if you can actually say something like that with a straight face. Of course, it also makes any crits you have that much harder to take seriously. (And if you ever put together a mod that looks as good as this does while offering the same depth and scope of gameplay, I'll gladly eat my words.)

I'm sorry if I seem harsh, but listening to you get all over-the-top theatrical about how bad the game supposedly looks (I'm just waiting for you to start shrieking, 'I WANT TO TEAR OUT MY EYES AND FILL THE SOCKETS WITH LYE TO BURN OUT THE TAINT OF FCK!' at this point) strikes me as an extreme overreaction. FCK doesn't look that bad, and most UT2k4 mods don't look '10x better' than it does. I think you might want to give the histrionics a rest and wait 'til the game comes out before passing judgment, too--I don't seem to recall Tekken 5, Soul Calibur 2, etc. being filled with misaligned textures when they shipped. :p

Er....you don't have to do that in UE3. That preview video with the scorpian driving around a city? That whole city was one level, as far as you could see when the camera raised up. The idea behind Sweeney saying you could do worlds like that was that they would be extremely detailed. Way more so than the current generation of GTA crap.
Brizz, the thing is that the it looked like on level, but in fact, that was a demo of "level streaming". The city consisted of several levels and they got loaded/unloaded in the background, as the scorpion moved through the city.

(W0RF how can you say it's crisp???)
I can say it's crisp because it doesn't have the jaggy look that most screenshots do when they're taken from an interlaced screen such as is found on most standard televisions. That was the only thing I was looking for in that particular instance, was "did someone snap this from a standard TV monitor" and looking at pic I have to say no. It is in no way a judgement on the quality of the production itself, which you are free to make your own determinations on, as it pleases you.

Wow, the people's hair looks like molded plastic. And there's so many stretched and missaligned textures going on, I think the texture artists have been sleeping on the job.

Also, the lack of detail and lack of use of shaders on ANY of the buildings and terrain is just dissapointing. These look like 128x128 textures, not the superhigh res stuff we see in GoW and UT2007 (talking 4096x4096 here).

And dear god, look at THIS screenshot! The railing pillars are just crappy, low res textures with a bad alpha mask! It's not even 3D!!!

So far, this is a waste of the UE3 engine.
