Saw a funny pic in the newspaper today...
An M4 with what to me looked like 2 taped-together UZI or Ingram MAC-10 clips.
Ummm.... why do that?? Why convert an M4 to a 9 or 10 mm weapon?
I'll get the pic scanned or see if I I can find it online.
Caption under the pic says it's taken by Will Burgess for Reuters

Well, I'm not Gryphon, but I think I can give a short answer to this one; for the exact details wait for the Grandmaster.

There actually are 9mm versions of the M16 series. Why convert them? Maybe in some situations a SMG is better suited than a AR - e.g. for Police forces, to avoid hurting civilians, since 5.56 have quite a penetration and energy.(I know not so much short range penetration..)

PS: there recently was a Post concerning the 9mm SMG versions of the M16, to whoch Gryphon contributed some nice pics and info.

9mm is the most tried and proven SMG caliber. It has good penetration, low recoil and can be delivered in great volumes of fire more accurately than most other 'serious' calibers. Though the effectiveness of single shots is questionable, the 9mm has an excellent record as a SMG round.

The 5.56mm, tends to be a bit heavier of recoil and has a higher rate of malfunction per 10000 rounds than the 9mm. Not to mention is not as effective as a suppressed round. Hence once again, the choice between power and performance to a specific task.

Did the gun look anything like this?

635.jpg

Colt Model 635 9mm submachine gun. Neat little toy, but the mags, UGH! Brand new 32-rounders on the civilian market now fetch $125.00+. That's nothing short of highway robbery.

Get one of those babys for yourself, and create a different kind of highway robbery.
On second thought....don't....it might delay the release of 2.8

For what its worth, I'd rather be hauling around an SD5, they look about the same length, with the added bonus that I'd get to kill with style.
