I just finished with a lava-fall that disappears into some foggy depth. The fog radii of the lights casting the fog is such that one can only see them when looking down from directly above. The rest of the time, they're occluded. Do they still slow down the zone?

lol

And no btw. You have to be careful that none of the fog can be seen, sometimes the outer edge of the fog is being drawn but it's not bright enough to see.

If you put on the radial view in the 2d views, the light radius should show up as a blue circle. Make sure it doesnt come over the edge. Also, if you have a zoneportal over the mouth of the pit that will solve all framerate problems relating to the pit, but you wont see the fog untill your actualy in the zone.

That is exactly why he doesn't do that I believe. The fog is suppoesed to be seen from above. I ain't sure if players are supposed to go down there anyway...

umm, no, they aren't. The main idea behind the fog was to cover-up the termination of the falls. The only player's that are going to get a close-up view are a second away from getting killed, and I made certain that they won't see much in that condition.

!!!!

I can see the fog in the editor without any problems. It looks exactly as I would want it to look, but I don't see any fog whatsoever when I actually playtest teh level. What's up with that?

It's 768x176xsomething deep

It's in a hall of sorts and is obscured entirely by a lavaflow from one end, and is visible from above and the other side, though all of the fog lights are visible only from above.

BTW, there's no growth nearby, and I believe the fog color is white, though the reddish lighting has made it an appropriate orange. Of course, you still need to get the correct vantage point to see anything at all.

A very good question GoldenMouse. It would be a shame to go through
all that work to make the fog when many have their card's
volumetric lightingturned off. :(
.
And yes, many D3D users have their volumetric lighting
turned off because most gaming sytes tell them to for
speed purposes. But with today's faster cards it is no longer
necessary. Not everyone has the newest card though.
