Wee, 100th Thread in General Discussion :D

Lots been happening in real life mode which can only be written in a short novel by now, so I will leave them aside. Apart to say. PHEW thank god it's over... for now... Now I gotta find a JoB.

DA2 is coming along smoothly, and we are now coming to the stage where we are deciding if features should be left out till Beta 2. Things like Vehicles, Enemy Models, Weapons etc have been put back till Beta 2, So Beta 2 will see a new breed of large outdoor maps for vehicles I predict.

I'm not sure how many beta testers where hired but I think ;) they have been doing their job, even though I've only seen a handful of new faces in the beta testing section.

I still feel there is some way to go still on map interactivity, basically here I'm talking about ingame cues to let you know whats happening, where you gotta go and so on, beta testers should understand what I'm talking about.

A bit of real life : As you are prob aware, I lost a lot of my recent work (University + DA2) So its been a real bitch of a few months smacking my head re-writing course works, however the University was kind enough to grant me extensions to my deadlines, it still means I have to sit down and retype pages of work, very frustrating. I've only recently (This Thursday) finished my last exam and with one more presentation to do on Monday I have finished UNI. HUZAR!

Now I can cracking back on DA2, This is fluxs thoughts for June :)

*yes I think I will unstick some of the older ones now

thx, but I've made that in about... 2 hours, maybe 1 and a half, add 1 more hour of work and you get this:

tank2sa.jpg

I was thinking about 4 + 2 other vehicles

a warthog (halo, but not eh same style) like buggy
a transport hovercraft with missile launchers
a PRV for medium - light close range combat
a hoverchopper
a long range artillery cannon mounted on the back of a truck (optional)
A Harrier Jetfighter plane, you know the vertical liftoff types (optional)

I'm sorry if I seem to work slow, but most of the time I wanted to model or work I worked on my own vehicle for ut2004.
The A.S.M.D. Tank. Its nearly finished.
besides that I've been accepted into the maya fundamentals class of www.3dbuzz.com so in the vacation if i'm working its on that course.
The modeling is like a walk in the park, it would be cool if someone could make the textures for me this time, take a look at the quake wars demo movie to get a rough idee.

The tank has 2 turrets (talk about power) and 2 A.A. Heat Seaking Missile launchers for air targets.

Two barrels are cool, but this turret looks a bit too 'boxy'. I would prefer a more agressive looking turret-design, like from the merkava-tank. Here some references:

http://3dcenter.ru/blueprints/tanks/merkava-ii.gif
The missile-launchers could be a bit bigger.

...this model looks like it has very much polygons. Is it the standard polycount for vehicles in ut?

I thought it wouldend be a bad idee to change the whole looks of a tank thing, seems this game does play somewhere in the future I don't think tanks would look the same, I don't know what kind of weapons fire this tank has, this is the more ENERGY turret type, if its a projectile type I'll surely change it though.

Its a good thing to get away from the standard tank-design, but this design looks pretty much like that. Additionally this design gives me more the impression of an armed transporter than of the heavyweight killer it should be.

I think its just about making it a bit more edgy and changing some proportions. I posted the pics from the merkava cause i think it looks pretty sleek and aggressive. However, I dont know at all what was planned...

Here some unusual designs:

...and what about the polycount?

look at the APC in HL2, it looks all future like :p

it has many flat angled sides but doesnt look like its made from 2 cubes i like that design, something like that with a long turret on but doesnt look like a 3-wheeler

so you like the tanks disign FluXs or is it wrong.

(I took the concept from the tanks, from quake wars: enemy territory and ut2004.)
They all have a flat lower body with a turret on top.

i've changed the turret a bit:

ah yes, that looks a lot nicer, I like the raised section of the turret sight in the middle. its more smoothed.

tanks of the future will have a lower profile because they are easier to hide behind buildings and harder to hit, but yeah i like the turret, i think the tank is a bit too long, but its hard to see scale in proportion to a person.

can you try the tank with just a single cannon but longer ? (maybe offset from the middle of turret) also try and get the inside of the cannon rounded as the alliance use projectile weapons so it will still need to be rounded to spin the projectiles.

also try what they did on the tank in halo. where the gunner/crew sit at the front of the tank and not inside the turret itself, that way there can be a raised section just in front of the turrent on the main body of the tank (where people might be housed)

the front of the tank is a bit too flat i think too, as the main profile is a rectangle, maybe if you push the middle section back into the tank a bit, leaving the treds either side so there is a bigger indent in the front of the tank, maybe where the crew enter the vehicle or something.

Yeah, the turret looks nicer, now. The double barrel is good, but the holes should be round since we most probably will stick with projectiles. The turret should be longer (and perhaps a bit flatter at the front and sides), the cannons can be far longer, too. The launchers should be bigger, longer and could be moved a bit up.

To get the chassis away from the rectangle form i would move the middle section back and up, so that the treads are standing out at the front (together with the double-barrel this would give the tank an 'evil' touch).

Then perhaps add a second, small and flat turret at the front, which will be the weaponry for the driver (it can only shoot to the front hemisphere). The gunner will control the turret.

--> ???POLYCOUNT??? <--
