Don't ask, but I've gotten my hands on a Berreta 92f, no manual though.

What I want to do is get some field stripping info, preferrably with pics to go with it.

Gryphon, you've got to have something up your sleeve right?

I have a 92FS, which I believe is the same as the 92F except with a thingy which stops the slide from hitting you in the face if it happens to crack (which Beretta slides have been known to do, after cycling about 12,000 rounds).

Anyway, it's a breeze to strip (almost as easy as a Glock). Forgive my terminology - here goes: while pressing in the button on the right side of the receiver, rotate the latch gizmo on the other side of the receiver, opposite the button. The slide will then slip right off the front of the gun. There's not much inside to mess with, just a sprung rod which is sort of holding the barrel in place. Should be obvious from there. Reverse the procedure to assemble. Oh, and make sure it's unloaded (check the chamber, not just the mag!) before you mess with it.

The 1911 is much more of a pain in the ass, due to the highly sprung whateverthehellitis under the barrel bushing, not to mention the fiddlyashell pin which fixes the barrel to the receiver. *cough* I really should learn those part names.

p.s. Congratulate me! I just bought a Super Redhawk in .454 Casull! (boom+++)

Ahh, there we go, thats how you do it. Oh, and I think the roundish lever type thing ("latch gizmo") is called a "take down lever".

Thanks MP*Beretta.

BTW While searching for "field stripping" in yahoo, I came across a site deaing with airsoft, it turns out the airsoft field strips almost exactly like the real thing.

BTW2: do you mean that eventually, one day in the paper my obituary will read "killed by a runaway beretta slide"?

Try a Usenet search in rec.guns for `beretta AND slide'. This is a much debated subject. Some slides have indeed cracked in testing, and I don't recall reading that this problem was ever fixed (although it may have been), just the symptom made more safe in the FS version.

On the other hand, I've never seen a cracked slide, nor have I seen a Glock 21 go kaBOOM!, which some have alledged that it is prone to.

I think there's a lot to be said for simply taking care of your guns - don't shoot them under water unless they are rated for such use, don't double-charge their cartridges (alcohol and reloading don't mix well!), and don't shoot a lot of (unjacketed) lead in a Glock barrel.

I'm starting to appreciate revolvers.

As long as the peruvian cops aren't monitoring this forum, I guess I can spill it:

I have an uncle, he's in the police here, and standard issue for higher level ranks are berettas.

Well, my B-day is in October, but my uncle was leaving to a boonies on some sort of special assignment, so before he left, he got me a special present.

Berreta 92f+ 2 clips and a handy dandy holster. I nearly pissed my pants, ever since I had shot his own 92f a couple of months back, I fell in love with it.

Yes folks, completely free, I can basically shoot this thing in my back yard, and I get practically free ammo.

I'm not proud of the "upper-class rules all" system here in Peru, but damn it, I got myself a berreta for free!

Hey Catalyst, could you post that file somewhere on the Internet? My mailbox wouldn't take 12 megs and I'm sure you don't want to sit there for an hour while you send it to me directly over my puny 56K connection.

That is compressed, and no, it's in PDF format and I don't have Acrobat Writer or whatever the editor is called.
