Few questions for playing Unreal/rtnp

I have a few questions for anyone who can help. :)

#1: Is there a way to play unreal 1 and return to na'pali in UT2004? (with multiplayer support if possible). I do have Unreal Gold as well as the original UT, I just don't really want to install the original UT more or less to keep from having multiple copies of Unreal on my HDD.

#2: I really love what the S3TC hi res textures did to enhance the original Unreal but it did nothing for the creatures, trees, etc. It's been quite a while since I've played Unreal but I swear back in the day there was a mod of sorts that upgraded all that. The trees in-game were replaced with much more realistic looking ones. As well as monster textures etc etc. Unfortunately I just can't find this stuff anymore. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Basically I want to play Unreal but have it look as good as possible and with any graphical enhancements available. With the computer I have now I have almost unlimited power to put to good use playing this classic gem!

No. There is a way to play Unreal 1 in UT2004, there is no way to play Return to Na Pali in UT2004, so you can't play both.

Are you talking about certain conversions? D:

For the second point: there have been various mods such as Xidia sporting new tree decorations and monsters having new textures.

Like the others, i have never heard of such a mod. And for the current project its impossible to upgrade those, since trees and such are part of the UnrealShare.u package. and it cannot be updated. But true, with a mod such a thing would be possible.

On a secondary note, i wonder why this hasnt been done yet, it would be a cool addon for the URP and UTRP project. And i pretty much asume it can be done pretty easelly for a modder. It basically only has to change the adresses from the UnrealShare package towards a seperate .utx package lets say UnrealShare.utx. That is aside the fact the textures have to be made.

The DeusEx High Resolution project is using a mod to achieve the same thing. So its possible alright. It is something to concider.

But to my knowledge, there never has been a mod doing something similar.

Do you have a link to that mod, and was it made for Unreal or UT ?

Sporting = showing.

Although those tree decorations come from a certain Decoration pack; Xidia/ONP/etc started to use them.

Not "Xidia sporting", but "Xidia" sporting new decorations etc was the sentence....anyway Xidia also uses the infiltration turret etc.

You can't drop the Unreal maps into UT2004 and run it, it won't work. Or even a redirect.
Maps must be exported/imported, but it is possible to get the mappage over. It is even possible to get the mappage export/imported to UT3 by reconverting it from UT2004, but it takes that steppage to do it.

For UT99 its not an issue since it uses the same game engine, without modding UT99 replaces the weapons with UT99 versions.

For monsters creature, you have to do some work there...(ut2004/UT3)

If you want those mods ported to UT2k4 you will have to port every single thing from scratch. To convert a map you will need to export every brush to .t3d file and then import it to UT2k4 and place them where they belong. As for the other actors like lightning, decoration, etc, You'll have to follow the same rules because UT2k4 has many things scripted differently and the class tree is not the same either.

Doing all those things to convert a single map from the first engine to the second one is just like doing it all over again, and I doubt anyone would do it because of one person's request.

Also, from what I remember reading about UT2k4 monsters, the default ones are not placeable actors. You will have to use the Old School Monsters (OSM) mod in order to place monsters in UT2k4 maps which is time consuming. So, over all, you will need a team of very dedicated people to make the conversion from scratch.

As for the S3TC version of UnrealShare.u and Botpack.u packages, it is possible to convert those as Diehard mentioned but those packages are mostky textures which as you can see, the package size is huge. If you were to convert those to S3TC the package size will come out to be extremely big for one to download and converting each texture is not a child's play. This only depends on Diehard if he is willing to take the time to convert those packages which results are still unknown yet.
