Exporting ASE files with Multiple Materials

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

So I'm using a tree from the UT2004 editor that I have two awesome textures for, only thing is. When the tree is in ut2004, it textures fine, but when i import it into 3ds max then export as an ase with multiple materials mapped to it (just for reference, actually texturing will be done in unrealed runtime), the resultant unrealed runtime texture job comes out looking horrible. The trunk looks fine, but the branches, instead of texturing normally like a tree does with leaves and branches and etc.. they come out like super over tiled textures that are being stretched. It's really important I get this sorted out and I cant find anything else to try.

Encompassing Idea:
So what I'm really trying to do here is export files from the commercial version of unrealEd to the runtime version of unrealEd. There are incompatibilities in doing this so what I've been trying to do is use UTPT to export .3ds files into 3ds Max, assign a bland, multi-layer material to the objects different selection groups. Then I export (as ASE) to UnrealEd where I import it. The materials either come out screwed up or wrong in other ways (some times not even the right number of materials). So if anyone can offer a good process of doing this, that'd be awesome.

If you try to align the textures in UED please dont, its really bad for several reasons

Does the stuff look good in Max ? Assign a decent bitmap in Max, is the result what it was before ?
You might have forgotten to enable material and uv export. Its in the ase export window on the bottom left

No, I dont try and align the textures in unrealed, whenever i apply the texture to the tree in the commercial version it just perfectly matches up.

As far as how it looks in 3ds max goes, it's not so good. In max I just assign the texture as a dds file that I'm going to use in the unrealed-runtime. It doesn't display properly in max and as far as ase export options go, I know they're right.
